Well, I must honestly admit that it was this forum that gave me the nerve and information to finally (6 months since Da Vinci RP) see my urologist and get my first Bimix injection today (30 mg/ml Papaverine / 0.5 mg/ml Phentolamine). To all of you that are hesitant: DON"T WAIT. If I knew that it was so easy, painless, and inexpensive, I would have tried it 4 months ago!!! My results with the first trial (0.22 ml.) was about 80% of my pre-operation hardness but it was good enough to be intimate with my wife again! Next time I will try 0.25 and see what happens. It lasted about 45 minutes and that included the drive home. The Dr. wanted me to load the syringe and then he gave me the first shot. It was absolutely nothing. Just like a mosquito bite only as it goes thru the skin and then absolutely no feeling of pain at all. It worked within 4 minutes and was the maximum in about 10 minutes. It felt great, just like in my 20's again. Totally warm and natural. No pain or ache during the whole procedure. It is still with me a little (2 hours later) but overall it was good for an hour. And this was my first trial! I got the whole kit (5 ml. Bimix, needles, alcohol swabs) for $80 at a compounding pharmacy here in northern New Jersey. That should be good for 20 injections. I am sure that if I shop around, I can do much better. And if this is doesn't get me to 100%, my uroligist said that we could move to a gentle concentration of Trimix (18 / 0.6 / 5.88).
My Dr. originally wanted me to first try straight Edex (Alprostadil) since he thought that it would be easier and cheaper since it didn't have to be compounded. The only problem was that I heard so many horror stories (aching) on this forum about Alprostadil and then my pharmacist told me that 6 injections would cost $439.00!!! So I pushed (based what I read here) for Bimix. My urologist agreed and it worked And now that I know what good results I will get, that will certainly give enough "incentive" to do the injections myself. Plus as a few specialists told me, this is good therapy and may help to "jump start" things.
So, for what it is worth, try it. I shouldn't have waited. I think of all of the hours that I was depressed, worrying about the inability to ever make love again. And the answer was waiting a few miles away at a compounding pharmacy for a few dollars! Thank you all at HEALING WELL COMMUNITY for posting your injection experiences...you have given me quality of life back!!!
