While I dont agree with EVERYTHING this urologist says in this "Press Release", he does make some good points.
For instance, it was NEVER mentioned to me by ANYONE that size would be reduced. And the "confidence" that Dr had in saying "we're confident it is confined", in retrospect, doesn't appear to be based on anythiong other than "odds".
Yet there are other statements he makes that I cant agree with, such as #10. "Every man expects curative life extension after treatment of his prostate
cancer, no complications and with a full return of normal daily activities and
the quality of life he had before surgery." I NEVER ONCE EXPECTED THAT ANY PART OF MY LIFE WOULD SIMPLY RETURN TO 'NORMAL".
That said, the one thing that I INSIST upon is that I have access to the information so that I CAN make MY own, educated descision based on life factors that matter to me. For instance.. I remember stating that I would never let them shoot me full of radiation.. then, when surgery failed, I almost didn't hesitate to have it.
So I look back now, more informed then when I made my treatment decision, and wonder if I would do it differently if I had it to do all over again...BUT WE DONT GET DO OVERS.
In any event... this doctor's "Top 10 Prostate Cancer Myths, Misconceptions and Outright Lies" offers a perspective some of you might be interested in considering.
