"Tony,
I am Co-Chairman of the UsToo Group at Hackensack University Medical Center in NJ.
As a point of information, the following is read to our Group before each Meeting:
"The primary mission objective of the UsToo Group is to disseminate information about the diagnosis and treatment of Prostate Cancer in order to help members make an informed decision on the treatment modality which is best for them. The UsToo Group does not endorse any particular treatment modality".
It is always sad and frustrating to meet men who present with
Metastatic Prostate Cancer because they were not diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.
I pray that someone will be able to convince the 40 year old man you refer to with Gleason 8 to start treatment and realize he is playing
Russian Roulette with AS at this stage.
I only recently joined HW and think it provides an outstanding service to men combatting Prostate Cancer and treatment side-effects.
Bob"
Hi Bob. I concur with your thoughts on all levels. It took me a while to shed my biases when I took over for 2011 Ed Kap's Hope award winner Lou Musgrove a few years ago as the chapter president of UsTOO Las Vegas. (you can find us on Facebook). But I primarily endorse education and support to all who come to our meetings. We have 300 members and about 40-60 attend each meeting. We typically have between 4 and 8 new members at each meeting and after opening comments I have each new member introduce themselves and tells us why they came. They ask for doctors or treatment recommendations often and my reply is usually that they are not ready to make a life changing decision. They will know better how to pick a treatment or a doctor after they have learned enough about their disease to understand the doctor business, treatments, and side effects of treatment. If they were already treated and have questions about SE's I usually send them here. They can get a large pool of peers here 24x7x365 as opposed to once a month meetings.
Good to hear from you. I'd love to chat with you and hear more about your chapter. Feel free to Email me and I'll send you my number.
Peace to you and thank you for getting involved and helping others. It's a beautiful thing...
Tony
