In the hunt for information about
adjuvant chemo for prostate cancer, I came across this interesting article: "Beyond Castration—Defining Future Directions
in the Hormonal Treatment of Prostate Cancer"
www.springerlink.com/content/a254155155154u02/fulltext.pdfIt gives a fascinating glimpse at current approaches, including the latest treatments, with analysis of how these may play out in the future, and how they might be applied in different settings.
I came upon this after finding an abstract showing that after neoadjuvant docetaxel and a year of neoadjuvant HT, surgically removed prostates not only were not cancer free, but showed signs of progression pathways not found in the control prostates from untreated patients. I know others have said that neoadjuvant chemo is not effective, but this made it look worse than ineffective.
That and other research studies were discussed in the analysis, which gave me a great overview. Then, at the end I found the statement: "Funding for this article was supported in part by Prostate Cancer Canada and the Motorcycle Ride for Dad (AMJ)." How nice to see that a grass-roots fund-raising event can have such tangible results.
