Farewell

Folks, I've been a part of the HW family for close to 4 years now, and have come to love and respect many of you. Sadly, I find that I'm not participating as fully as I once did....not because I don't visit often and not because I don't have something to say. Perhaps I've "lost my stomach" for contentious discussion, or perhaps I simply don't like to see members of my HW family go at each other as has been happening all too often lately. Either way, it is obvious (to me) that there is little I can contribute at this point, and have decided to "resign from the club."

The 4th anniversary of John's diagnosis is coming up in February, and it's time for me to move on. I will miss many of you guys - and will miss the Wednesday night chats. Perhaps someday I'll stop in to see how you're all doing. For now, though, please know that you have been a very important part of our lives - John's and mine - for the past 4 years, and we will cherish the friendship, support, and guidance we have received here. You guys and gals have been truly wonderful to us.

In spite of the fact that some will take exception to this: May God bless all of you and keep you safe.

I am sorry to read this. I take a somewhat different view of the forum. While it is of great value to those dealing with PCa I now sometimes find it getting cold and sterile. I long for the days when debate and discussion were more "enthusiastic". All the members here have their own personality so clashes are bound to occur. Most of the time these are simply barbed comments not abuse. I find nothing wrong with that and feel that the members who have a vigorous disagreement now are often treated like misbehaving children who need to be admonished by their elders. There is nothing basically wrong with a good stoush ----- it can add a bit of life and could well let new members know "hey these blokes are human and vigorous not just a bunch of diseases and statistics bemoaning their lot". Bugger it all, we are alive!!! Please reconsider Sephie.

I am with the others and hope you reconsider. This board will always be open for you and John. I have been here five years and these discussions are simply a part of an online board. I see it in many boards, some I take part in and some I just monitor. We are not as bad as some of the comments that fly in the comments sections such as can.com or Foxnews.com as examples, but we don't always behave well. It certainly isn't your fault and I am sorry it has made you feel this way. As moderators we could limit discussions to personal experience only but does not work well either. Unfortunately, in prostate cancer there is always a two sided coin. Some people only see heads, and some people only see tails. I am no different. But still I have learned from both sides of the coin and I am very happy I did.

You have been one of my earliest and dearest friends here at HW. I personally would hate to see you leave, but fully understand all your reasoning. People move on for different reasons, and I respect your decision, if it becomes final.

Through you, I really got to know your husband John, my only regret was that I never made him a Red Sox fan (lol). Guess that wasn't going to happen anyway.

In some of my darkest hours in my journey, you were always there for me, and gave me a voice of reason, hope, and comfort, and for that I will always be thankful.

I hope that John continues many, many trouble free years from the PC beast.

Wife and I are talking again about making a NYC trip in December, just prior to Christmas this year. Would love to see and meet you two if this gets to happen.

P.S.  Some of what you reference, in fairness, is simple human nature at work, and when you factor in the horrific battles that some go through in their PC journeys, complete peace at all times is a good goal, but I don't think is always possible.  None of this is easy, that's for sure.

David, you are my tin man...remember when Dorothy was heading back to Kansas, and she told the Tin Man that she would miss him most of all. You have my email so please write when you and Peg are ready to head north. John and I will give you the deluxe tour of The Big Apple (and possibly a Yankee game!).

I've been here near three years and you were one of the "old guard" when I arrived and blessed me, along with countless others, with your care, concern, and guidance. I thank you for that and wish you and John well as your journey continues.

I thank you for writing, and for expressing your feelings about what's happened to this web group over time. If there is a chance for this forum to be better it will only be if members, coming, going, or sitting here, speak to the issue. I, for one, doubt very much that what some old timers might see as fundamental problems will be solved. The business model being pursued here doesn't lend itself to that. (Note: Not intended as a criticism, just a reality --- if I were the owner it might well be the business model I'd follow too.)

I do hope you'll click on HW from time to time, say hello and let us know how you two are doing. Mizpah (as we use it today, not in the Genesis use)

Yep I have a sad face but I certainly do understand the reason for departure. Many of the people have become such great friends.
