Who do you believe? Mayo or Dattoli

From what I know about scans is that it takes a lot of experience to read them. The USPIO scan is very different than a normal MRI in that what you don't see is important. The nano iron particles are shaped in such a manner that allows them to enter normal lymphnodes and every lymphnode that has an uptake in iron particles is not infected. Cancerous lymphnodes for some reason will not let the particles in so they appear as normal lymphnodes. I assume that the USPIO is somewhat like the Combidex which I am familiar with, as the concept is the same but the agents are different. There is a lot of interpretation of the results and it took years of experience for Dr Barantsz to learn how to read the scan, and it is still independently read by him and another experienced radiologist and every lymphnode is graded independently by each and then any discrepancies are resolved because different radiologist see things differently.
Since Dr Bravo is much more experienced in reading the USPIO scans than any other radiologist, I would rely on his interpretation more than an outside radiologist with no experience in reading USPIO scans. I don't see how a normal MRI can tell a cancerous node unless the nano particle agent is used, that's why they use the agent. Just my two cents.

Ferraheme scan showed 2 lymph nodes. Nothing else. Dattoli Color Dopler Ultrasound showed cancer tenacles in the prostate bed.

Mayo guy does not believe Ultrasound can show cancer. Wonders about Drs. at centers for profit. If the lymph nodes his Radiolist saw prove negative then he just believes cancer is microscopic inside of me. Thinks the Hormone alone will take PSA to zero.

I am so freaking confused now it is crazy......

As my rad onc doc said during initial consultation "all this PSA had to come from somewhere". We went for most aggressive treatment - pelvic radiation. Again quoting my onc - "what's a little colitis?". Until they invent laser guided missiles for PCa, my approach is to go for carpet bombing. BTW, my doc is Dr. Zelefsky a well known doc from Sloan Kettering. Not suggesting this is right approach, just saying how I thought about it.

Color Doppler can absolutely image cancer in the prostate gland after surgical removal. Dr Bahn does it all the time and biopsies confirm it. Sounds like your Mayo doctors have a "Not Invented Here" attitude. My MKS trained surgeon was also telling me that CDU couldn't find cancer at the same time I was looking at my CDU image of a large tumor with a confirmed biopsy report.
I think one has to ask the question of why most oncologists like Myers, Strum, Scholz and others routinely refer their patients for these scans, CDU and USPIO, and other doctors don't.

This thread is also an example of something I have had to learn (hard way) about medical conditions. I now know that I only have a test/scan/procedure if I know what I will do with the information gained. And if the information gained would make no change in my treatment then there is no reason to have the test.
If I seek a second opinion then I must have, in my head, the value I place on the first opinion and the guy providing it. The second man and his opinion and logic must exceed my trust and confidence placed in the first guy in order to overturn the first opinion.
I think Jeff has two valid opinions, Dattoli/Bravo and Mayo. He must determine which of these two has the experience, knowledge, and standing to convince him to follow.

There are people on this thread expressing medical opinions. I'd say, don't get your second (or third) opinions on the internet. While many on this site are well read and intelligent, they are not doctors, and their only practical experience is with their own cancer. While members of this site can give you ideas, they cannot interpret scans for you. You have received genuinely different recommendation from two specialists. If you aren't sure which way to go, go get a third opinion.

I will have another MRI this week at Mayo. Their radiologist that has some experience thought she saw nodes that were infled but suggested different views then Sand Lakes had. I have time and insurance and I told them they can needle biopsy them if their MRI shows they should.

I am on Hormones and am not scheduled for radiation until 5/15 so test away.

My wife wants me to send all tests to MD Anderson. I suspect they will mimic Mayo.

The passion I saw in Bravo and Sorace just keep me leaning their way.

I have some time and value viewpoints expressed here.

Hey Jtl - sounds like you've done your research and have made a good decision. I'm prayin' that I never have to deal with recurrence, but if I do I have already done significant due diligence and Dattoli would be my choice.
