FDA rejects Amgen's application for Xgeva (denosumab)

This was announced Thursday the 26th. Thought it might be interesting.

One statement that stood out in the article was this:

"In the first quarter of 2012, sales of Xgeva rose 14 percent from the prior quarter to $153 million, and it is expected to eventually become a $1 billion-a-year drug."

I think osteoporosis is the primary driver for those projected sales. I recently received a Prolia injection due to my long-term HT and bone density test results. Prolia is the same drug as XGEVA (denosumab). My insurance "covered it" (I have a high deductible plan) and AMGEN covered my out-of-pocket with co-pay assistance.

I agree, but the article went on to say that they saw their new marketing use of the product to be to some 50,000 PCa patients that had not yet reached mets stage.

I've just stopped monthly xgeva shots.
