I'm not sure if I want the penile prosthesis surgery done?

 I did have prostate cancer " the Cancer isGone "  2 1/2 years ago,  that Dr. had to remove the prostate and since that, I have the worst ED problem.  I'm not sure if I want the penile prosthesis surgery done. I'm scared of the out come...what if it doesn't work or I get a bad infection.  I,m not scared of the surgery.

 The Dr. thinks I have " VENOUS LEAK "  he will test me in 6 weeks for the  venous leakage.

 Hi will do a ultrasound and inject double the amount of compound medication into the penis...this will tell if I have a leakage.

Bob, how old are you?

you are definitely still young. It's sounds like a scary thought but doing so would give you back part of your life you were not ready to give up yet. Perhaps few experts int he field wit impeccable credentials can advise you on procedure and maybe reassure you some.

A site that may be helpful is www.franktalk.org. It is run by a man that several of us have met in person, and has a membership that is specifically oriented to ED issues.

I would suggest that you also look for a specialist in implants, as experience always counts, and having surgery in a hospital that sees the same type of case on a regular basis is good, if not essential.

I have some friends who have done the implants (I have not), and are more than happy with them. There is a down side - they have a lifespan just as any other medical device, and may have to be replaced some years into the future. I have asked the question - "Would you have done this if you knew the healing & possible replacement scenario?" and the resounding answer in my small group was Yes. None of those I know who have done it appear to regret the choice, but as always, each of us has to decide on our own.

Bobbart has a valid concern regarding infection. However,risk is low: 1-2%. Risk is also low of a need for rework or repair. I was worried about finding a good doc. Mine was on the low side of the rate I was looking for - does 1-2 per Month. Things worked out great, though.I am very happy at 6 weeks out, would do it again. Sounds like your choices are limited with venous leak. I think you would not regret the implant.

Hi Bob,

I had the veinous leak test done last week.
A simple procedure, the doc injected me with caverject then waited ten mins for an erection to appear.

He then scanned with the doppler thing and showed me on the screen the blood flow (which was normal) proving it's a nerve issue in my case.

Minor infections may respond to a few pills, but if the prosthesis is infected it must come out, surgically. I see infected implants in all body parts taken out quite regularly in my line of work, but it is a very small % compared to the successful cases. That said, I would have no hesitation personally getting an implant myself. With my degree of ED and Peyronies I will take that small risk. I sometimes feel like I don't have a penis really anymore other than a spout to pee from....however Im only 7 months postop so I doubt I would be considered for bionics til closer to the 2 year date. Im only 41 and I would like to have a bunch more sex :)
