Zometa (zolodronic acid ) frequency ?????

I received 6 x monthly zometa infusions last year and was told that I would be 6 months on .....6 months off cycle.I mentioned to my oncologist at a recent nearing that I would now be due another cycle.His response was that zolodronic acid has a half life of twelve years and that I would only receive another session if bone pain became apparent.He seemed concerned that the drug can cause jaw narcouisis ....excuse spelling please ...Any views or comments ????

I've read that around 2% have have a problem as far as the jaw. Still there is the chance you could be one of that 2%. I don't much like the idea of taking zometa, but then I don't much like taking any of the drugs that I'm taking.

Recent clinical trial to determin dosage (Every month or every 3 months) just ended, so I haven't seen any results yet. I hope It's every 3 months.

I take a Zometa infusion every 30 days, however before they give it to me I have blood work done.

My transfusion nurse mentioned a 3 or 6 month option, for now I want to remain on the 1 month as while I'm there I can get other things accomplished.

Plus - and with absolutely no scientific knowledge to back this up - personally I feel the less and more frequent the med the better.

leeanglo, that fits what our doctor said. My husband was on zometa and went off of it when he thought he might have some dental surgery. When asked if he should go on it again, our doctor felt it was an unecessary drug at this point in time. He said it is more useful for the men who have mets in the bones. I'll be interested to see agreement or disagreement on this.

I have bone mets, and am currently undergoing Taxotere infusions. My infusions are three weeks apart, and I am scheduled to get Zometa every other time (thus every 6 weeks). After nearly five years on HDT my bones are "porus" (osteopenia) but not critically so (osteoporosis). If the Zometa helps drive out the bone cancer, BRING IT ON!! I have had no jaw trouble.

I am on Prolia (denosumab) for bone density help while on HT. I am told to avoid tooth extractions. Otherwise, the risk of necrosis low.

SequioRanger....5 years on ADt,can I ask how you tolerate side effects as I'm into year 2 and all the usual ses have come and gone.Scary thing is at the moment my libido as suddenly returned and I'm worried that this is because I'm making testosterone????.I did have a zoladex injection 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering if my body is just trying very hard to make T.Sorry for going off topic there guys but was just curious.
