I won't be posting for awhile - for a very good reason...
My wife and I are taking our 16 year old grandson to England to see the town where she grew up. Then, since our grandson is studying French, we're off to Paris for a week. We've never been so it will be an adventure.
I won't be taking a computer and won't be thinking about
anything other than enjoying myself - and looking for opportunities to embarrass the 16 year old (one of my hobbies).
We started planning this just before my DX and I was very worried if I'd be well enough after treatment to do the trip. My RO managed to get scheduled in earlier than normal so I'd have a few months of recovery before having to travel. I have a few concerns about
traveling now but figure I can manage. Now, I have to look it up again - what's French for "Men's room"? ;)
See you folks later in the month.

Andrew, my friend, I hope you have a wonderful trip to Europe, I envy you on this one. Yep, no computers, no PC, just have fun with your grandson. Lookling forward to hearing details when you get back.

Andrew,
Very glad the timing worked out well.
Am sure you all will enjoy the trip and hope it will be a good break from the grinding worry.
Have fun and be safe please!

enjoy... we just did the same two city trip a few months ago. Only word of advice is to avoid Versailles. We purchased tickets ahead of time but still had to wait 2 hours in line just to get in. Once in there were so many people lining the halls of the palace that anyone under 5.8 (wife and kids) couldn't see anything while being escorted out. It was like a stampede. guides there told me it was always like that. You'll be in London during the Euros so enjoy that, they'll be going nuts when England is playing.

It's good to have hobbies. I bet you're outstanding at it! (I am still only in the parenting phase, but I have to believe it's true of grandparenting too -- embarressing the kids is one of the best perks!)
Sounds like a fantastic trip. Enjoy.

Thanks for all the good wishes. When I first got the DX I was devastated at the thought that I might not make this trip and it was something I told all the docs when I started. Whenever I'd get really depressed during the RT my RO would often say something like, "Don't worry, you'll be ready for that trip to Paris." I am happy to say I am.
I found out last night that our grandson has been so motivated studying French this last semester (we told him about
the trip last Christmas) that he is will be take the AP (advanced placement) French class in the fall. Of course I keep telling him that I study Spanish so he'll have to interrupt for the whole trip. When ever he and his grandma practice French I respond in Spanish - the eye rolling on their part is worth the effort. I keep asking him to translate phases for me, like, "Help I've been abducted by aliens" or "Where can I get my hair dyed green?"
I don't really know what we're going to see in Paris. My wife made a list and we told grandson to do research on what he'd like to see. Several war museums and some catacombs are on the list but I am not sure if Versailles has made the final cut.
I am off to the airport this afternoon to pickup the teenager and then tomorrow we cross the pond for our first stop in London. I'll give a full report when I get back. Likely I'll do a couple of long pieces with pictures in my blog.
