I've been using Metformin for a couple of months after being found to have slightly elevated blood sugar.  It has been effective in treating the glucose problem.  Are you asking about its reported benefit in dealing with prostate cancer, or just its use as a diabetes drug?

I'm just curious about the PC benefit. I have potential blood sugar issues as well. I'm wondering if anyone has seen a benefit in PSADT or some other positive report because of it.

Our doctor mentioned it a while ago when we were discussing treatments. We decided for the taxotere at this time. I have to admit I was amazed. I am on metformin! How could something I am on help my husband? I don't think there's enough information yet though I do understand promising results have been achieve.

I take 500 mg a day in the hope it will protect or slow the cancer. Had to talk a primary doctor into giving it too me since don't have high blood sugar. I have no way of telling if it is helping me.

I'm taking 1000mg per day after the high blood sugar and elevated A1C readings.  It has definitely improved my glucose situation, and I'm hopeful that it might also help prevent a recurrence of PCa in the future.  I was unhappy about having to take this medication, but felt somewhat better after reading about its possible benefiit regarding prostate cancer.

Both Dr. Lam and my onco @ UCSF have said there is some evidence that metformin can have some anti cancer effects...nothing conclusive ...also LEF has written a few articles about the positive effects metformin can have on several cancers. Thanks to lupron my blood sugars have risen and I am now diabetic (ah prostate cancer the gift that keeps on giving). I now have a script for metformin from Dr Lam.....I 've been holding off starting it until my system adjusts to the ARN-509, also I have a history of GI problems, which is a  potential side effect of metformin.
