My wife and I are leaving Friday morning for another PC/Technology free extended weekend.  We are going to Charleston, SC to visit our daughter and her husband.  Got reservations at our fave hotel there, and as usual, no laptops, internet, or even smart phones.  And no extended medical conversations.  We are hoping to actually go to the beach, but we would pick what will be a record breaking heat wave to take off.

Suppose to hit 106 in Greenville, 110 in Columbia, and 106 in Charleston, all of these temps will break the old records for the date, and that's not counting the heat factor.  They said in Columbia, hit factor could hit 120 degrees.  I have to be real careful, as I am hyper heat sensitive to begine, and when wearing Fentanyl patches like I do, you can easily get a heat stroke, so it will mostly be indoor only activities, no walking all over the city like we did back in April.

Will be nice to get away, my wife is about to explode at work with all the work problems, pressure, and work load.

Will check back in Monday afternoon sometime, because Monday morning, I have to go through pre-op at the hospital.  My exploratory surgery is still set for July 10th at 0930.

Have a great weekend. Here's hoping the weather forecast is wrong and you get nice temps.

Hey have a great time David. Sounds like it's going to be a hot one though so take care. Heatstroke is not one of the things you need right now.

Thanks guys, thanks giving for air conditioning, would never make it. Plus my Lincoln has air conditioned front seats, so you don't have to sit and drive sweating away, lol. But a black car with black leather makes for a toasty ride.

Just getting away does us both good, these 3 days events really helps my wife to recharge her worn batteries.

Have fun on your weekend away from PC and internet. I guess the heat is all over the country. We reached 109 in Austin TX which was an all time high for June.

Sunday Update at 6 PM:

We got back about 3 pm today. It was a great trip and getaway, however, it was during the hottest heatwave in SC history. Yesterday in Columbia, it hit 116 real temperture with a heat factor near 125. In Chalreston, though known for hot and humid summer weather, it broke records too, it was 105. Ended up being too hot for use to do much if anyting outdoors. We never went to the real beach, as it was just too hot, and I would have never lasted 5 minutes in the open sun. We did use the hotel's pool one evening, and then the next evening, went to the community pool where my daughter lives, it was actually shaded by oak trees with spanish moss hanging down. Still have a great visit, and had some very good food.

Very intense traffic in both directions, which made it hard. We stopped today at a rest stop near Columbia, and it was 109 when we got out of the car. It was staggering to say the least. Just going to the restroom and back to the car was enough for me. So we pushed on, and came straight home. It was only 103 degrees where we lived, almost artic like when we got back, lol.

Won't do another trip like that with temps that high. Drained the life and energy out of me. Glad to be back home.

Glad you had a good trip. Those temps are killer.

Don't know about you but I always seem to need a vacation to recover from the vacation. ;)

Yeah, there's no place like home. First thing I did was take a long, long nap. The Lincoln impressed me, as I drove 80-85 mph as much as I could, and averaged 24.2 mpg, not bad for a 4,400 lbs lead sled.

Glad to hear that you had a nice visit. We have been hiding in doors with the sweltering temperatures. Traffic is always a nightmare for us in the New York area and you never get used to it. I despise traffic. Good to hear you're home safe and sound. As Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz said, "There's no place like home "

David, glad you and Peg had a good visit with your little girl. Yep it is hot hot hot. I bet the AC sets were real nice.

zimac, thanks, yeah, traffic in Charleston is always busy and intense, not so much because of population, but because of geographic limitations and just a few major roads. i couldn't handle living there, between that and the heat. very similar to the climate of new orleans.

thanks jeff, my daughter and i have always had a special bond, she will always be a daddy's girl. she made sure that i didnt have to go too far anywhere in the heat, fixed a wonderful home cooked meal, baked brownies for me. her husband is the manager of a new resturant, and we were treated like royalty to a saturday morning brunch, and ended up getting a free cookbook signed by the master chef. and as far as no technology weekend, it was great again, i don't think my wife or i once missed the net, facebook, watching news, etc,, once we checked into hotel, i literally turned off my phone and never turned it on till we got back home.

Casey, that speed is the normal flow of traffic on Interstate 26 here in SC. And, I am considered very well opiate tolerant, have zero side effects since I have been on them long term, and only use meds literally as directed and prescribed. Breaks are taken along the way, and my wife is capable of driving anytime I don't feel like it. If I didn't feel safe, or felt drowsy, etc, I simply wouldn't be behind the wheel of a car. I am cleared to drive by all my doctors.

anytime i can get away for a few days with my honey, its a good time. heat or no heat. a 3 hour drive is the max. window for me, to be honest. my back starts giving way after about the first hour. sometimes, i put the heat on the driver' side seat, and it can help. but it was too hot this weekend to consider doing that.

won't be doing another trip there till the fall though.
