post op report

Well sorry all for the delay between the surgery and computer being down I was a bit late. I finally was scheduled for robotic surgery on 22 May. All prep and on the table i fell into a blissful sleep, then things went astray shall we say. With the da Vince machine inside me it had a malfunction and glad my surgeon was a good one he had to switch to radical open. When I work up in recovery groggy as expected I am wondering what the hell happened, when I seen his smiling face, "You are the only patient that I have that this has ever happened to." Well half out of it this is not what one wants to hear. He went on to explain what transpired, LUCKY ME. Op took 4.5 hours and i felt like it 3 days in hospital instead of the expected1 to 2. Been 43 days now i think seems like one rolls into the next, getting around but Catheter is a real bummer was hoping for a quick removal but that was not to be after 10 days cystogram detected a "small leak" their words lol. So it was left in just came back from my 2nd cyctogram and the radiologist said it is still there but much smaller. mmmm small leak is much smaller mmmm. any way I go back to surgeon on Tuesday. Pathogly report was not as well as i would have liked seems some form of radiation is being recommended to augment the surgery. Feeling well with the exception of the Cath, and bored as crap.   Oh almost forgot path report had a gleason of 7 vice the original 6 and the PC was detected on the surface of the prostate, Doc. also said the gland was extremely fibrous what ever that means.    

After going though what you went through, glad to hear you are feeling well. First things first is to let that leak heal (or get it fixed) and then get the cath. out. Learn more about your post op path, such as, was cancer beyond the surgical margins and such. This will help you decide between ART and SRT. I am sure others will chime in and answer if your prostate being fibrous, has any bearing on your decision making.

Chief, I didn't go through what you went through, but when I met with the robot, they weren't paying very close attention to what they were putting weight on, and silly me, I was unconscious so I couldn't tell them about it (pain is a good indicator when you are awake but not when you are knocked out). I woke up with some pretty good pain. In a few days, I had a bruise that covered half my leg up to my hip. I don't know what they did to that hip/leg, but it must have been something significant. They admitted that they must have screwed up and put weight on it (when I sent them a pic of my bruise).

I hope the leak gets fixed. That catheter is a bummer.

Ed c you were looking for more information on the patholgy report here is what i was told and is my record patholoty report gleason 4+3 (7), it was orginally a 6, carcinoma with some extraprostatic extension at the left proximal marrgin anteriorly and the tumor exteding close to the posterior and anterior aspects, posteriorly as well.

well my last cystogram Friday did not go as well as hoped, still have cath, will go in for another cystogram tomorrow wednsday the 11th and see the surgen on the 12th if the leak is healed I guess it is getting smaller. Doing a lot of walking up to 5 mile during the day a mile at a time.

Thank you all for your concern I will get through this I would not have any other way. Wondering what this radition treatment is going to entail. I do a lot of traveling for my job so this could impact that. Gues i will find out.
