I did half IMRT and half HDR, with a total of about 92 gys. about two months after the treatments ended, my hemheorroids were really bothering me, but I also had a real burning all the time. I tried Prep H and the like, but it didn't help. I finally got the RadOnc to prescribe a hydrocortisone acetate 25 mg suppository (Anusol-HC). That cooled things down pretty quick. To keep stools soft I went on Ducolax for a while, but didn't want to stay on it forever as any laxative taken too long may make you dependent on them. I upped my magnesium supplements a little and drink a lot more water and that has helped keep things soft. I also keep Baby-Wipes next to the john and use them after every BM, and I took a shower and swished a lot of water up there if I thought it needed the extra attention. Keeping clean is essential to ridding the burn.
If your treatment was like mine, then they targeted a little into the rectum close to the prostate as part of the process, and that created inflamation which has also affected the anus. It will get better, but it will take some time depending on the inflamation and the amount of radiation to the rectum. If you had/have hemmorhoids (I spell it different each time cause I can never get it right anyway) then that will complicate it a little.
My Uro stated after my recent DRE (6 months post-treatment) that there were no signs of scarring that he could feel in the rectum and he felt positive about that.
I have to stay on top of it, but I feel that I'm slowly getting back to ?normal?. I'm guessing you will too. It just takes some time and extra care at your stage.
Good luck.
