Aspirin May Aid Prostate Cancer Recovery

" Men treated for prostate cancer who took aspirin regularly for other medical conditions were less likely to die of their cancer than patients who weren’t taking aspirin, according to a new study published on Tuesday in The Journal of Clinical Oncology...

The aspirin users were also significantly less likely to experience a recurrence of prostate cancer or have the disease spread to the bones, the study found. "

Trouble is that aspirin can cause bleeding.
Even before my biopsy I was told that if I was taking asprin to stop taking it. I was definitely warned off taking it in lead up to surgery and for a while afterwards during recovery. It's also no good during RT when it may make the damaged tissue bleed.
So at what point do you take it?

I've been absolutely forbidden to take aspirin since I was in my early 20's, due to a high risk of bleeding ulcers coming back after a first round.

What saves you from one affliction kills you with another ....

And don't start taking them without talking to your doc... Stopping the process of taking aspirins can be bad in itself.

I think the VA published the same findings a year or two ago..They discovered it by accident..Prostate cancer patients who were also taking daily low-dose aspirin had a much lower death rate from PC then those not taking aspirin..

Most people can take a coated low-dose aspirin without stomach or bleeding problems. But you should always consult with your doctor before starting an aspirin regimen.

What's interesting is the reference to "been treated". So if you haven't been treated or have used some other method of teatment then you would not benefit?????

Men who have been treated for prostate cancer, either with surgery or radiation, could benefit from taking aspirin regularly.

The results from this study suggest that aspirin prevents the growth of tumor cells in prostate cancer, especially in high-risk prostate cancer, for which we do not have a very good treatment currently," Dr. Choe said. "But we need to better understand the optimal use of aspirin before routinely recommending it to all prostate cancer patients."
