Cure

I am confused about radiation being a cure for PCa. I have heard that external beam radiation for T2B to prostate a node followed by 1 year Lupron is a cure.

Then I was told by a VA doctor the it was not and as a matter of fact there is not proven data that radiation plus 1 year Lupro has any longer survivial rate that Lupron only.

What do you think?

My oncologist tells me that I am 'cured'. I ain't about to argue with him.

Friendly fire 2 (deros ). Radiation + lupron is best to prevent recurrence--no guarantees. You had + lymph nodes so you should be t3 like me. Dr had me read nccn guidelines-60% 5 years. Good luck my friend. Hope you get your radiation! Bill

Friendly Fire one, this is friendly fire 2 .Over. I am a t2bn. That is 1/2 the prostate involved with a lymph node. That is what the paper work said. I do not know anything with a t3.

They counting my scapula bone a false postive do to ingury. It may not be but next week back to MDAndersonn to repeat bone scan and ABD.ct.. The VA Ratiation oncologist was bad he could not decide what to do. Proving my point that the big CCC centers are the place to go. I packing bags for 2 months of rays but could be disappointed. They want PSA at 0.5 and check early the month was 1.6 and no spread. Looking forward to getting Zapped as you know.

I was under the impression you had to be in remission for at least 5 years to be considered cured....at least thats what my insurance company told me. Ive read that on other sites as well.

Friendly fire 1, 1968-69 were rough years but 2011-12 ain't been real good either. Both start with a C.. Charlie and Cancer. lol

My surgeon told me he would consider me cured with 5years of recurrence free. My urologist said 20 years. I don't know and do not think they do either . If they did they would know enough about the disease,…..to cure it!. To me the main point is, a quote, little known to be by A Lincoln, attributed to many.

Although I dare use the word "cure", my Brachy team did use the word in describing my treatment. They also used in when convincing me to stay on my HT for at least 12 months.
