Anyone know anything about using Rapaflow in place of Flomax?

Hi All,

In another post of mine I indicated that Dr. Moran had prescribed Rapaflow 8mg 1x/day to aid in urinary function post brachy.  Does anyone have any experience with Rapaflo?  It is supposedly the newest version of the Flomax approach?  Thus far I'm good - 6 days post procedure.  The only thing I've noticed at times is what I can best term as "slow / weak flow" when compared to peeing like a race horse!

Also this past Tuesday night (4 days post proc) I went out and shot in my pool league, and had 5-6 beers.  Middle of the night I got up to pee and it was really slow/weak - should I be cutting out the brewskies for awhile?

Hey, a "few" brewskies are just fine (as far as I am concerned). Dr. Moran gave me an Rx for Flomax, I took them for about four or five days and decided they were never REALLY necessary. Checked with him via phone and was advised if things are working without those pills, just go without em. I still have the remaining number of them just in case. My local Uro Doc said just hang on to them and use them in the event things slow down and they could be very handy in the event I have another kidney stone trying to dislodge and make it's way out of my ancient plumbing.
I believe for a while your prostate may be inflamed somewhat from fighting the seeds activity and for that reason the urine flow may slow down a bit. Sounds like you are doing just fine.

Hi Bob, thanks for the reply.  Yep, I'm doing great and I know I should expect a "slow flow" for now - and then probably again over the next few weeks as the seeds are their most potent.  Not a major problem, just "different" but not bad.  You know I was thinking of shooting an e-mail your way but you beat me to the punch!  Thanks again, hope all is well out in Colorado.

Don’t know anything about Rapaflow v Flomax but I’d trust the Dr if he feels that is the best prescription for you. The weak/intermittent flow is an expected side effect at this stage but R or F should take care of it.
Sounds like you are doing great so far.
Re the ‘brewskies’ – Jeff didn’t give them up either, nor spicy food which was another thing that was recommended. He did drop caffeine for the first 6 months; he gave it up cold turkey about a month before his implant. Tells you a bit about my beautiful man, he’ll happily sacrifice his coffee but Lord help the man who tries to take away his curry and beer!

Yoop, I don't know about R vs. F either but you have a great doc and I assume he knows what he's talking about.

Re the brewskies, the only time I had a frequency/urgency issue was when I had spicy Mexican food and a few beers one night.  Big mistake for me.  I learned my lesson and then followed orders and laid off alcohol, caffeine and spicy for 3 months and all was fine.  Sometime we men just have to learn our lessons the hard way...

Susan and Jim, thanks for posting and as always really good to hear from you guys!

I do totally trust Dr. Moran, hands down period! Hopefully I didn't come across as though I am having problems with the urinary thing, 'cause I'm not; just the one night getting up and having a slow flow and it happened to be after having a few beers so I was wondering if there was a correlation or just coincidence. Fortunately, at least up to this point, I have not felt urgency or burning - but do realize that could still come along as the seeds are doing their thing, at their utmost strength over the next few weeks.

I have made some pretty significant changes in my approach to diet, and once I'm past the 2-week mark I will be hitting the cardio and weight lifting hard again as I have for the past 15+ years all along the lines of kicking this beast's ass - but asking a man to give up his beers?

I've seen a number of posts on guys using Flomax for varying lengths of times both pre and post PCa treatment and understand that Rapaflo does the same thing - and also realize that once again as we all have come to know, each of our situations, while some may be similar, are still different - and we have to work our way through - which I will/am!

Yoop,

You're so cutting edge with the Rapaflow, that I don't know much about it. If it gets to be a problem, I know that Flomax comes in two strengths (4 and 8). Most people take the 4, as I did. I did have a problem with flow (probably from the anesthesia) after my hernia operation and doubled the dose (with the doctors permission) for a week and that did help (I didn't want to end up in an ER getting cathed). I didn't really cut back on anything. The only difference I notice now is that if I eat cabbage, I pass gas. Don't know if it's the seeds or just getting older.
