Bluebird,
about the Viagra - ask your uro and GP for samples every time you see them. Even if they only have a packet or two, it is something. Also get your uro/surgeon to write a letter to the insurance that specifies that the ed meds in general are intended for rehab post-surgery (they will know all the procedure codes and keywords to mention). I had to have that done, as my ins. only pays for surgery / injury-related ED meds, and you have to jump through hoops to get the limited quantity approved.
Someone mentioned the Depends website, yes, they will send samples, and if you call them directly and explain the impending surgery, they will sometimes just stick a coupon in an envelope and mail it to you right then.
Other resources:
- Tena has a Men's guard that probably is too light for first days, but is a good weight once things get under control. They also do a men's pant. They will also send samples, and are actually a little more reliable about getting the real samples to you than Depends.
- Watch the local Walgreens or CVS ad (if you have them), as they often have the house brand guards at half price. Theirs (and those from the Kroger, Safeway, Target/Affirm, and WalMart house brands) are very heavy, and are great for early on, but will be too bulky once this settle down.
- Check if your surgery hospital has a cancer patients resource person. Mine did not, but another in the same group did, and the nurse/co-ordinator is a wealth of local contacts for all things cancer-related. These services are often free for their patients.
- Also Call the Lance Armstrong "LiveStrong" folks. They can send a diary and tips for survivors, and are aware of local resources in many geographic areas. But call via phone, because if they help you in person, they usually waive any shipping fees that you would be asked to pay if you signed up on-line.
