It makes me all tingly just thinking about it. Here's the rest of the genetic test.
Both of them have at least 2 digital voltmeters: one next to the box where they keep the AA and AAA batteries and the other on the work bench. One of them has a third one in the garage tool box. Craftsman. They both still have their K&E slide rules but don't know where they are.
There are boxes of pictures they took in high school and developed themselves. The Durst B22 enlarger is at their parents' home with the Nikkormat or the Minolta SRT-101.
They currently have at least one old inkjet printer in the basement along with the previous 2 desktop PCs.
Every girlfriend they ever had regrets that she left them - except for that one crazy one in college. (Good riddance!)
They look at xkcd.com at least once per week and think his radiation chart to be both a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.

Oh, and they both have PCa which we all know has a strong genetic component.

I rest my case. How'd I do?

Yes on the three volt meters, and two at work
No on the slide rules, but I did lose my Texas Instruments SR-50
Didnt develop pictures, I made slides and they are all pictures of my 1974 Nova and Model Airplanes
Threw away last inkjet, but there are three 386 computers in a storage building for parts, a small "Shuttle" computer sits on the floor beside me and my laptop, here on the couch,and the big new desktop with 22" LCD and 2 DVD drives is on the desk. (Both with scanners attached).

Iron Reb, That's right! You are the younger brother. Slide rules were fading away when you were in school. I still have my Ansco tank somewhere in the basement.
Now that my office is in my home, I have 5 DVMs, too. 3 accommodate thermocouples, one has sound pressure (db), and light (lux). I use a DVM and thermocouples when we cook the Thanksgiving turkey. I plot the curve continuously and slightly adjust the oven temp up and down so the bird is ready at the exact suggested cooking time.
I'll bet you have all kinds of IR stuff around too. Oh by the way, your first generation Owl scope has a dead battery. Better change it.

She has a huge right arm from carrying the torch for you all these years. She's still kicking herself for being so aloof and letting you go.

Peter, Nice! Did you dust yours with talcum powder too. I took great pride in aligning the slides so I could squeeze out that all important extra significant digit. Is yours on the shelf in the living room next to your Starrett vernier calipers? (umm.... mine is.)

I have more thermocouples than NASA - and I use them. On Thanksgiving the turkey is monitored more closely than an astronaut. When my wife started having hot flashes she wanted to know how many and how often so I taped a small time and temp tracking device to the inside of her upper arm. She wore it for days to study if foods or herbs had an effect. (Bless her heart.)

That's quite a setup you have there! Does your wife put it up and take it down every year or is it year 'round. I'll be it is gorgeous at night.
I'm almost afraid to ask this but..... you don't have programmable Christmas lights do you?
I don't. Too wasteful - I prefer to keep my BTUs inside the house.

No, we take it up and put it down every year. That is why she starts in October. Got to be ready by Thanksgiving for the nephew. No programmable, I settled for the old X10 system. One big remote and I can turn the village on and off as well as the inflatable Snoopy in the yard.

Didn't use probes on the wife for sanitary reasons, I just bought one of the radar gun thermometers to see if she was in heat or not.

Jeff, The vacuum used in sous vide cooking is generally applied inside a plastic bag that prevents the vacuum from leaking out. The air pressure on the outside of the bag compresses the food and, more importantly, increases the thermal transfer coefficient between the food and the surrounding temperature-controlled bath. Perhaps you could put your stove in a really big plastic bag...

142, there are soooo many people on this thread itchin' to tell you what you can do with your slide rule... as in what all the scales mean and how to use the slide and the indicator.

Must....not.... get .... into.... how... to... use... slide.....rule... Must ... resist talking about Using C and D scales to multiply A and D for square roots K and C for cube roots. Pull out the slide and reinsert it backward and get new functions.... Arrrggh!!!! I can't stand it!!! I'll show you at the next GFMPH gathering in Baton Rouge!

Peter. That is genius! You know that don't you? The Maple syrup guy draws a vacuum so the sap will boil at a lower temperature thus using less energy.
I wonder if the sous vide process would be enhanced if thermal heat pipes were embedded in the vacuum food bag and were allowed to pass through the bag into the heat medium.

Thermal tubes in the bag is an interesting idea, if you can deal with the issue of leakage.

(If we were doing this in Fortran, I'd put the "GOTO line#" statement here.)

You could skewer gobbets of tasty fatty red meat on a heat pipe and put the whole thing in the vacuum bag. The heat would have to flow through the plastic bag but it could take a shortcut to the middle of the meat. We could call it "sous vide souvlaki".

That was precisely the intent. It made a never ending loop. I thought about adding a counter, I=I+1, and an IF statement referring to a line related to a Sling or AUS installation, but that would have been just too nerdy. I do have some limits.
Umm... I do have some punch cards. I even had an 026 keypunch machine in my barn that I got as gov't surplus. I used to use the cards as note paper until I realized they were becoming rare so I put them away for safe keeping. Hey you never know. I still remember how to read the cards by just looking at the holes.

I have learned more about cooking in this thread than I had in the past year. I see the elegance in your spelling of souvlaki and sous vide, as well as the deft application of the special heat transfer element I have an ethanol filled THP, 6 mm in dia, 150 mm with a vertical heat conductance 400x that of copper. Hold one end with your fingers and stick the other end in a cup of hot coffee and you will instantly yelp from the pain - and most likely spill the coffee. There has to be a use for this in cooking.
I like the concept of 2 people holding onto the pipe and letting the heat energy flow from the warmer one to the other. To the person with cold hands, the pipe feels always feels warm. To the person with warm hands it always feels cold.
I'm sure there is something philosophical in that someplace.
