My Mom

Well, my Mom lived a long life, but she passed away yesterday at age 85. She was widowed at age 48 with a 13 year old daughter. My dad died of lung/brain cancer (it was not pretty) back in 1975 at the age of 57.
My Mom had advanced Parkinson's, and her quality of life for the last two years has been poor at best.
Out of her misery has come some good. My dear sweet wife took it on herself to get deeply involved in my moms care, and hardly a day went by that my wife didn't spend time with Mom. She would "pop the whip" when needed at the nursing home, and she made a real difference in my moms life, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Not many wives would take that kind of care of their mother in law.

Anyway, sorry for rambling about a topic having nothing to do with PCa, but I wanted to share with you guys

Best wishes. I know my mom will be there before too long. She's 87 but still going strong. It will be very hard. May you find peace as you deal with this. Your wife sounds terrific.

Kbota - I would also like to offer my condolences to you and your family - you are one of the "brothers" (and sisters too) in THIS family, so we do care and thank you for taking time to share. As I've said before, we are all here for each other, for a shoulder to lean on, cry on, or punch.

So sorry to hear of your loss. The time between now and Sat. could be used to reflect on, and be thankful for, the better years Mom had. Though, as we know so well (wow, don't we?), each day is a blessing, regardless.

My mother also died at 85. Last years were also hard due to severe mental decline. Dad died of lung cancer, too, years before. And, my wife was a jewel about dealing with my mother's situation ("cracking whip at nursing home"). So we both have jewels for wives, among other similarities.

Again, sorry for your loss. Know that things will get better over time.

Thank you to everyone; those who posted, those who called me, and those who did both. We had Mom's funeral today, and all the family have gone home. Dianne and I have cleaned up, pulled the center leaf back out of the dining room table, and are finally able to relax a little. It's been a busy yet sad, hectic yet joyous week, and my Mom would have been proud.

And another generation passes.
