I was reading an article(from this forum) on PSA spikes after Brachy treatment and I remember Dr. Grimm talk about not having any sexual activity a few days before getting your blood work done for your PSA test. So I guess this is not a myth then?

I believe the general jest is that it is true BEFORE treatment.....

Yeah. Agree with Steve. Have only heard about this suggestion as being relevant before you have treatment.

It is important to note that the PSA test can change between the laboratories performing them - therefore, it is valuable to have the test consistently performed by the same laboratory. In addition, sexual activity should be avoided for two days prior to the test. said...

It's fairly common knowledge on the CK Forum that anything that puts pressure on the prostrate can temporarily increase PSA levels.  This includes ejaculation and even bike riding, too.   Of course there are other more kinky activities, but I'll leave those to your imagination ...   nono    :-)   They say to take it easy 48 hours before having a PSA blood draw.  Hope this helps.

And if you don't have a prostate any longer there's nothing to put pressure on.

I read somewhere recently that there is a possibility that because of nerve sparing during prostatectomy the remaining edges of prostate material can still effect a psa reading.  I have not been able to confirm or disprove that hypothesis. 

 If that is true, it would seem that sexual activity could still make a difference post prostatectomy.  Does anyone have more definitive data?

The reason I posted this in the first place was that my URO laughed at a referenced I made to this theory and said, "you must have read that on the internet"....lol
