Injections help recovery of spontaneous erections?

I have never tried injections but the stats say they are very effective at creating an erection. My question is whether the use of injections as part of post surgery therapy actually helps to waken up the 'system'. My understanding is that injections work by relaxing the smooth muscle. I was wondering if the smooth muscle gets lazy due to infrequent use for ED sufferers and whether injections help to re-energise the muscle?

I am 23 months post DaVinci surgery and have still not recovered spontaneous erections. My urologist didn't believe in injections as part of the therapy but now I am wondering if I should try them.

I would welcome any stories from anybody who has experience of injections actually helping to restore spontaneous erections.

I have been using a pump, daily cialis, Viberect and a prostate massager but haven't tried injections yet.

Notsostiff – Trimix is around 90% effective for men needing help getting erections (Caverject is about 60% effective). It’s not the injection or the medicine per se, that is therapeutic, but the erection that is the result of the medication. Erections are needed to keep the erectile tissue healthy, while you are waiting for the nerves to recover and heal. The erections bring fresh blood and oxygen into the penis to prevent atrophy. You are correct that erections are caused by the relaxation of the smooth muscle. But if you can achieve sufficient erections using pills, then injections are not going to bring any additional rehabilitative benefit. For effective rehab, you need to get 2 to 3 erections per week, of penetration hardness, of at least 10 minutes of duration each time. This will maximize your ability to recover your erections back to what they were prior to surgery. For many men, however, pills are not enough, and injections are the next step. The main difference between pills and injections is that pills are facilitators, they help make conditions right for an erection to happen … whereas injections are initiators; they cause an erection to happen.

For me, pills didn’t get the job done. I could only get to about 50% for 5 minutes or so (penetrations hardness is considered to be 60%). So at 7 weeks post-surgery, my doctor put me on Trimix injections. I’ve been doing injections for over a year now – it’s worked great for me. I am able to now lower my dose and get the same results, and I’ve even had some promising success without meds.

Hey---so on the injections---I am seven weeks post op and have an appointment with Dr. Mulhall next week. about those injections, How long does the erection last? Is it as good as pre-surgery? Has anyone had problems with urine ejaculations? Any pain associated with the shots? How big is the needle?

Well injections may help with spontaneous erections, it's not clear one way or the other, but you should try.You don't have anything to lose really.  I think some here are misleading you about how easy the injections are at first. I had the first injection in md office and all that but the first shot at home was at a much higher which caused one of those 4 hour erections that almost sent me to the ER. So start out at very low dose and slowyly work up. Plus you need to make sure you inject at the 1000 or 2000 position for correct injection into the corpus cavernosa. Inject somewhere else and you just get bruising and nothing more. It is discouraging at first, and even when you get the right place the pain from trimix is significant at first. I went to bimix which was painless but the erection didn't feel "normal" to me, so I went back to trimix and adjusted the dosage. Finally after 4 years of trial and error I know the right dosage and place to inject for good results. I also have some curvature to the left which I didn't have before surgery, which maybe from the surgery or the injections themselves, I don't know for sure. So I only inject on the R side, since curving to the left means scarring on the left side. Currently I am battling low T so I haven't injected in awhile because of low desire. Once I can get my insurance to pay for T gel or shots and my desire returns  I hope to go back to trimix injections. Some sex is better than no sex...........
