PC SUPPORT GROUP MONTHLY MEETING

A great meeting last night! Instead of our normal count of 10 we were up to 15..Outlying medical facilities are getting the word out to their patients and our new members who have not been treated yet are getting excellent advice. We have a doctor in our group and a 75 year old who has been on lupron for 7 years after surgery and radiation who still runs marathons.
2 of the members are stage 1V with wide spread mets and are trying to sell their homes and harleys--both of these men are between 45-50 and have family histories with fathers and brothers with PC. The 3rd stage 1V new member is a personal friend and former customer; he had been "cured" of PC 6 years ago but it has just recurred. He said he's going to Ireland and will worry about his PC next year. Good idea while he can still travel.
At the conclusion of the meeting we all gave handshakes to the stage 1V members and thanked them for coming--no hugs. I'd like to believe that they feel better sharing their experiences with the group.
Bill--A "seasoned" age 70..Dx's sept 2010 psa 4.89 and 5 g8's and 4 g7's out of 10 cores with pni//high volume and ece..IMRT (79.2 g's) completed in Feb 2011--3 years of lupron and 1 to go (then Katie bar the door?) psa <03 now

I applaud your efforts to help "neewbies" through your monthly meetings. I am also impressed with the efforts you have put forth in sharing your research with members of this forum in guiding them to appropriate treatment..I'm of a different generation, so I can't send studies/etc to anyone with the computer...With my VA doctor relocated to Alaska and my civilian doctor retired, I "lurked" frequently on this forum while utilizing a physician's library to make my decision---wish I new about our support group then!

Dx's Sept 2010--psa 4.89--5 8's and 4 G 7's out of 10 cores with high volume and ece..casodex & lupron and completed Imrt feb 2011--lupron for 3 years--1 year to go--psa after rads .06 now <.03.
