Hello,
I have been lurking for awhile, but it is time for me to jump in, so to speak. I am the partner of a 65 year old man who was diagnosed 4 years ago. I admit to being overwhelmed, and thus can't bring all of his history up at this time. His Gleason score was nine and at diagnosis his PSA ws 21.0. His cancer was considered aggressive with inconclusive mets in his sacrum. He embarked on Hormones and then IMRT. For various reasons, he stopped treatment although his numbers were successfully dropping. I should also say that he has not tolerated treatment well, with burning from the radiation. (He was on Zoladex, and then Degelarix) His numbers went up drastically when he stopped, which is when he was put on the Degarix, and had a serious reaction, and thus stopped. about a 4 months after he stopped, he got horrible pain which turned out to be mets that have shown up in his bones. He is now finally working with a wonderful Oncologist.
I guess I would like to hear from other men who have dealt with mets and what I can do to support him emotionally, physically during this time. The Dr. was very throrough, and has him on Trelstar and Casodex (numbers went down 10 points in a week!) and wants him to also go on Xgeva. He also has an appointment with an Radiological Oncologist next week.
Thank you and Merry Christmas
Susan
