Hi los1023,
Sorry to hear you joined the club, but happy to see that it is low risk and probably very curable.
After my local urologist diagnosed me with a very similar type of PC to yours last year, he also sent me in for a bone scan and CT of my abdomen. He assured me, in advance, that the results WOULD be negative. Some urologists like to do this as a standard procedure just to establish baseline readings.
However, when I went to the place where I ultimately had a DaVinci procedure (Mayo Clinic), my surgeon -- after seeing my biopsy report -- told me he did not know why my local urologist had even bothered doing those tests.
So, as you can see, it is a matter of personal choice among doctors. There really was NO need for me to take those tests -- and there really is no need for YOU to take them either.
So I just wanted you to know this to relieve you of any unnecessary anxiety. The tests are completely painless and do not take very long. If your doctor wants you to take them, go ahead & do it -- but do it with the knowledge that there will not be any spreading of the cancer found.
It is simply one doctor's way of "going by the book."
You have a low risk case and, after the surgery, you will be just fine. The surgery, itself, does not involve very much pain. The main thing is to make sure that your surgeon has done AT LEAST 300 previous DaVinci's because there is a very long "learning curve" involved with it. Naturally, you want someone who is beyond making any "rookie" mistakes.
Good luck!
Chuck
