Newly diagnosed - looking for financial resources in Michigan

My dad is a young 73 year old who was just diagnosed with prostate cancer his Gleason is a 4 and 5 and he is a stage d2 he stared receiving his fermagom, xgera and Lupron January 17, 2013, he is doing fine with it but he just found out that his Medicare will only cover 80percent and his blue cross will not cover any he is on a fixed income is there any organizations in Michigan or grants he can get to help with the cost. We need all the help we can get.

Welcome to Healing Well.

My first suggestion would be to check the websites for Xgeva and Lupron. There may be a co-pay assistance available.

What intervals are the injections? I am thinking that the Xgeva is a six-month shot? My uro does the six-month Lupron to avoid the more frequent office visits, although there is much validity to the idea of a shorter-term shot while learning how he will react.

We also have a very interesting PCa seminar support group held usually 2nd Tuesday of the month at Crittenton Hosp. in Rochester, Michigan (2nd floor), but is not run by the hospital, it is an independently run thing via an independent onco type doc, so it is not sales, it is about unique information and PCRI videos, newer Journal articles or interesting research findings. open to anyone, no strings attached.
