I had a doctor for many years who had my complete trust..In Feb 2007 he provided me with a psa test (2.72) and a dre--all ok..He then scheduled me for the same test for my next annual--In Feb 2009 I had my labs and then discovered that I had a new doctor--my old one had retired..The new doctor didn't inform me that my psa was 4.89 and didn't provide a dre..6 months later a PA ran a psa test (4.70) and again didn't inform me or provide a dre....
Fast forward to July 2009 and I went to the emergency ward--psa 4.86 and dre--hard as a rock...the rest is history..When questioned by a staff attorney, the doctor informed him that he believed in the "conservative approach"...I assume that in the future that many men will be diagnosed the same way
due to the "Recommendation"...Sure, I'm just venting!! Thanks for listening.

Sorry--the date of diagnosis by symptoms was July 2010 and not July 2009...I'm getting old

understand where you are coming from.

sounds like potential malpractice to me, one man's "conservative approach" is another's neglect.

btw, I am totally against those new recommendations, men will suffer on account of them in the long haul

Dave/Purg,
When I got my records form my RO, I discovered my physical history...After a period of anger and depression I submitted a suit and settled out of court..With a stroke, diabetes, and other infirmities
I didn't desire to go to Federal court and have it protracted for years; since my wife has MS she couldn't have continued the issue in my absence...Oh well?

Good reason to vent! "conservative approach" is fine as long as the Doctor informs the patient of whats going on.

After all it is the patients body and life!

We have had to deal with a similar situation with just not being told 6 years sooner than we were. Since then, I don't want to say we don't trust doctors, but we certainly do check out recommendations. So far, our gut feelings about certain treatments versus others have proven to be successful.

Vent away... I get so infuriated about doctor's taking liberties that are not their's to take.

I am at the 2 1/2 year mark in my "case" against the radiation center that did all the damage to me back in 2010. It's been a long, hard fight, and most of the laws here in SC work for the doctors and against the patients, but I have been stuborn, and relentless on the legal front. Getting close to where an out of court settlement will be made as well. Though, money will never replace what was taken from me, and the perm. damage that was done to my body. It's more a question of principle with me.

Lieutenant: You had a birthday as did I..This "seasoned" vet feels like he is "well seasoned"..After 1200 miles in 2 days I discovered that I don't travel well anymore. Family business which entailed 2 visits to a nursing home, 1 hospital, and a grave site with my younger sister wore me out so I vented! 1 warning ticket for speeding and 2 I-Pass violations didn't help either..ticket is in the mail to Illinois.
Purg & Mrs WW: I have followed your histories and can only sympathize and provide advice; I'm glad that neither of you have resolved to be a victim or martyr..In my case, I wanted to make a point and have procedures "tightened up" for other veterans..Well, my case was resolved at the same time that the "Recommendation" was published so my efforts to assist others was in vain.
Reachout: my 79.2 gys imrt is standard these days while 82 gys is the max--the lieutenant had the max..I can't tell which symptoms are from the radiation or lupron but experience SE's of fatigue and emotional instability (highs and lows).
Note: My days of traveling non-stop cross country are over--lol
