I just had my 13 month post brachytherapy followup with my urologist, this past Wednesday, and got the labs back today. PSA came in at 1.6 . That's up from 1.23 @ my 10 month checkup, and my nadir thus far. Kinda disappointing, I had hoped to be under 1.0 this time, but it looks like that didn't happen. I'm gonna retest with my primary care doc in a couple of weeks, and see where it lies. Uro didn't seem at all worried about it, telling it was quite normal. Looks like I may be in the PSA bounce category now. Nothing else really to do, but watch and wait right now. I'm not overly anxious about it right now, but still....

Yeah I wouldn,t worry about it til it starts accelerating at an accelerating rate. I think you will be good. Help your self with steady cardio , strength workout , eat good , be kind…. it will work good for you…..

can understand your feelings and concerns, but appears to be the classic post-RT bounce when RT is used as a primary treatment. The next two readings or so should show what direction things are ultimately heading.

do they fractionate the psa for the free % after rad rx or surgery?

how do they tell if this is from regrowth of normal prostate tissue?

If I'd had to bet on you in Vegas I'd bet on bounce and not recurrence.

whaaa...?  can you explain that?  one test isn't definitive.  usually three in the same direction defines a trend.

PSA in the blood can be attached to other proteins or " free", just circulating around, unattached.

If the free psa % is less then about 20 to 25% it is more likely prostate cancer as opposed to prostatic hypertrophy.

I had no prostate nodules, am young, and have a small prostate yet my psa rose to 5.3 with a free psa of 14%, so off to biopsy I went.

Welcome to the ‘bouncing club’!
I remember too well my disappointment at Jeff’s 12 month test. I wasn’t expecting a bounce so early on as 18/24 months seemed to be more typical. At his 17 month test the PSA was down again but then his 2 year test last month it was back up to almost his 3 month mark! His consultant not concerned at this stage and has suggested a retest in 6 months but Jeff is going to retest in 3 months at our GP surgery.
Grrrrr PSA anxiety!!!
