Yes, that's possible. Two ways: First, if the balloon portion of the cath (inside your bladder holding it in place) isn't full enough or leaks, decreasing it's diameter, it could cause you to urinate through your urethra and penis.
Or, if the doctor blocked the supra, it would force you to urinate the "regular" way.
I had a Suprapubic catheter in place for 51 straight weeks, during and post SRT due to heavy radiation damage. There were times during that year that the doctor would block it, to see if I could urinate on my own.
I even went through a period, where I had both a supra in place and a foley up my urethra, depending on which one was blocked, would determine which catheter would drain. You can only imagine what a nightmare it is to have two caths in at the same time.
Are you having long term stricture issues like I did?
