This really covered all things PSA.  Including screening guidelines, age based charts, other things that elevate PSA, even PSA velocity (a subject dear to my heart).  I thought it was a balanced article with good info, especially for someone new to PC.

Thanks David. That was a good article. I have never been able to get my handle around the over screening/over treatment debate but this quite clearly lays it out. I still wish that my husbands doctor had tested his PSA so that perhaps we would have found the cancer before it had metastisized but at least I have a better understanding of his beliefs

glad it helped to clear up a few things. I thought this was pretty even handed information, no particular biases from what I read. A good overall summary of PSA and how it fits into the picture. Hoping others will see it that way.

On the chart that shows things that can make your PSA rise, some of this was news to me even after over 4 1/2 years of studying.

Your husband's stats are pretty sobering, I only wish the best for the two of you. Never give up hope.

Oh trust me.....we have hope. Our mantra..."years and years and years". I try to remember to say that every day to him. He likes it......especially over a glass of wine....tee hee

I like that mantra! Mind if I steal it?? I'll also be sure to use it with our wine at the GFMPH gathering in Baton Rouge next month. Y'all would fit in quite well! Consider attending, you won't regret a moment.

Would love to attend but we will be back in Canada. Can't overstay our welcome in the US or the immigration folks get edgy. We would likely fit in from the sounds of things.... maybe some other time.......years and years and years from now

Good article. Thanks.

I'll take their recommendation and start getting my PSA checked when I'm 50. (Sometimes I just hate being an exception to the rule)
