Prostate and libido?

Hi

I hope you don't mind but this is my first post and its a question

After a biopsy and scan I have been diagnosed as having an enlarged prostate and been given Finasteride to take. My consultant has told me my Libido will be effected and he explained about the loss of erection that will occur and the desire for sex will become less. Trouble is whilst I understand this I have two other questions I should of asked him but in my rush to get out the door I forgot to ask. Would someone help me out with these two questions if you don't mind........

1. Is the loss of libido permanent or will it return sometime in the future?

2. This is a question that's really bothering me and I hope it doesn't sound stupid. With the loss of Libido will I still find woman attractive for instance if I see an attractive woman will I still want to look and appreciate her? Sorry I know that sounds silly but it's really bothering me.

Thanks for any help and if it helps my sex life at the moment is fine. I am 63 years old and a bit worried.

Ps since writing the above post I have been reading through this forum and feel bad that I have asked such questions when others are suffering so much.

i'll put it to you this way.  when I was on Lupron I bought a new computer.  the only time that computer ever had a naked woman on the screen for the next couple of years was by accident.  I could see a woman and know she was attractive but not bother with a double take.  the loss of libido is quite "freeing" in a way.  of course your partner may not see it that way and you might wonder what all the fuss is about .

Wow. I'm halfway through my 3rd week on Lupron, but nothing yet. I can't wrap my head around this lack of libido thing. I'll likely know more shortly, it seems!

The whole point of Lupron is knocking out testosterone, so if that's the key to libido then it sounds like that's a near certainty. I don't know about other things, like finasteride or whatever.

F8, are you recovering in that way now?

You may be over-worrying here a bit. Finasteride generally has less frequent and less serious side effects with regard to libido than do the drugs that several of the men who have responded here are taking. It seems a bit odd that your doctor said it would cause problems instead of it might cause them. I think 9 out of ten guys don't notice a difference. We guys on Lupron, on the other hand, do notice side effects, big time. I love to complain about them, personally, but happily for you, it wouldn't apply.

Thanks very much for the answers I am not so concerned now. I agree about the consultant saying the drug WOULD effect my libido as I had thought it doesn't effect everybody. I asked him again and he said it definitely would so its a wait and see for me.

I liked the scenario of the 'clip clop' of high heels on a hard floor as that is exactly the sort of thing I was concerned about I didn't want that sort of thing to mean nothing anymore and I am more worried about that than the possible lack of erection to be honest.

I put the same questions on a UK website and had no answers in a week! I put the questions on here and get answers almost straightaway so thanks for that
