My grandfather was diagnosed a few years after you with similar numbers. I don't remember exact numbers.

He monitored the disease and died in his mid 90s of an unrelated cause.

Your doctor gave you solid reasons for treatment and ones you are comfortable with? I don't know much about radiation but I am sure the radiation folks will chine in soon.

We have guys here who can tell you stories about their radiation side effects that will curl your hair (if you have hair) but most of us do OK with the radiation.

The common side effects that almost every guy who gets radiation seems to get are fatigue, hemorrhoids, gooey poo, and occasional urinary symptoms (urgency, maybe a bit of occasional blood). The fatigue generally starts about half way through the treatments and lasts a couple of months after the treatments end. It's not particularly debilitating but most guys find that they need a nap every day and tend to fall asleep trying to watch TV. The 'rhoids are annoying but your radiation oncologist can give you suppositories that will generally clear them up in short order. During your treatment and for quite a while after you will notice that your bowel movements have an odd mucousy texture -- you will use extra toilet paper and may want to use baby wipes because of the hemorrhoids. Your doctor will give you a special diet that will help keep the radiation from giving you diarrhea.

External bean radiation has some sexual side effects but they come on gradually after treatment and its hard to tell how much of the changes are due to the radiation and how much is just getting a bit older.
