An easy, non-confrontational subject: Hobbies are GFMPH, what is yours?

I shot my first ever gun a few weeks ago in Dallas. At a restaurant between first course (best steak i have EVER had) and desert. I'll never admit to saying this, but it felt good.

every single night so far. I pull through all day long, say goodbye, go have dinner alone in great restauarants, come to hotel, force myself to stay up until 11ish, fall asleep then wake up (wide awake) between 2-3AM. Two mornings ago I couldn't take it anymore and went out for a walk at 5.30AM, there was nobody in the city, not a single person in my sight until 6.30ish. The historic center of Arezzo is pretty. It's also a very civilized city compared to Rome. I'm buying melatonin tomorrow.

And that Bill Murray movie "Groundhog" day is my life right now. Except my day starts at 2AM everyday. Hotel serves breakfast at 7am so that's what I loo forward too while rolling in bed.

davidg - what I regret in my years of heavy biz travel, is that I missed out on much of the younger years of my children, like when they were ages 2-6, I was always gone. there are entire events in their young lives that I have no memories of, hope that's not the case for you at your age. I made a lot of money in my 40's, but it came at a price. wouldn't do it over again if I could go back in time.

yooper - might actually be fun, but I am a bonifide city boy, love my creature comforts, lol.

Among my guns my two favorites are purely sentimental.

My grandfather's shotgun is a 1925 Winchester Model 12. He bought it for a hunting trip and then never used it again. It has not been shot in over 85 years and is absolutely showroom fresh.

Also my Daisy Red Rider BB gun that I got in 1955. It had pretty heavy use in the early years, but still looks and shoots great.

In high school we had a buddy that lived on a farm and his father had a collection of industrial goggles that were indestructible. We would dress with long underwear and winter coats and the goggles and then play war with bb guns. You could feel the shot but could'nt get hurt. Great fun.

Purgatory. The movie was "PushingTin", and I refused to see the movie when it first came out as it looked to be a stereotype of the profession ,tho I have sense seen parts on tv. That was close to reality at least in respect to the competitivness and EGO's of the the controllers. Most accurate depiction of ATC was a short scene in " Close Encounters of 3rd Kind", where a flight crew had a close encounter. Filmed at the Washington air route traffic control center in Leesburg ,Va, with actual controllers playing them selves. One of my most privileged actions was in the navy in early 1963, when JFK was visiting NewPort, R.I., as he often did,was to provide Ground Controlled Approaches to A26000,{AF1}.which is now in the simthsonion museum, when they mad practice approaches. Never worked it in with the president aboard, too young at 19 ,I guess. they cheated it was my turn, tee hee. amazing professions and individuals in this family. My question is where are the barbers, milkmen, garbage men, clerks, tellers, short order cooks,lidat. All an equal chip of beauty of the healing well mosaic. Ps, pleasure knowing you all.

I dont have much time for hobbies once Im back to work so this internet is definately a hobby. I do like being outdoors and watching sports(tv) and attending sporting events. GO TIGERS !! I have a 6 year old Brittany Spaniel that keeps me busy. I like to shoot pool and did alot of fishing when I was a kid but hard to find time for it now. I really need to get my Dad's metal detector and go out digging. My Mother had a hobby of collecting those Beanie Babies. She had over 600 of them and left them to me when she passed because I used to buy alot for her and she said I was the one who started that hobby for her. Now I'm stuck with them along with plastic boxes sitting in my basement. Tried selling, but you cant get much these days and my Mom paid like $30+ for some of them so my hobby now is to find a buyer and get rid of them. LOL !

Donaldj - that is a lot of beanie babies, lol. good luck on disposing that many.

donft - a pro golfer, wow. photography seems to be a popular one here, I don't do stills, but do dabble with HD documentary style videos, thought haven't done any lately

ralf - I never did Ham radio, assuming that's what you mean by amateur radio, but have been into shortwave since I was a kid. Still play with my Grundig shortwave set on a regular basis, not sure if many anymore even mess with shortwave.

Ron's hobbies include watching ALL sports!  He has his favorites:  baseball, football, and basketball.  However, he watches everything else from car races to horse races to the Olympic sports.  He loves to fish, and playing with the Grandchildren!

My interests vary.  Time with my Grandbabes is #1 for me.  Ask all my friends!  However, I love music and dance!  I haven't been blessed with a beautiful voice; however, I am a pretty good dancer.  Even won a trophy in my younger years.  Sorry, I don't enjoy cooking, but my husband does.  LOL!  I am a FOUNDING MEMBER of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.   We have been there 52 times since it opened in 1995.  I am very excited about the newest exhibit (2 floors) on THE ROLLING STONES!  In college, I did an Essay on, "Women In Rock."  I love doing research, which helped me to help my Hubby.

I also admit to being a Talent Related Reality Show fan.  I have watched every episode of AMERICAN IDOL, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, and DANCING WITH THE STARS.  I also have watched, "The Voice", "The Sing-Off", "America's Best Dance Crew", and the "X-Factor."

I love photography and have about 10,000 photos (ask my Grandbabes).  Nothing professional; just for fun!   Some rooms in our home look like a Toy Store.  Some day, I'll be back on eBay selling.  Then, there's the Internet...

This thread would have never been complete, unless I had heard from you and Ron. My you had all kinds of secret interests I would have never dreamed about. I have never been to the R & R place, let alone 52 times. So glad that Ron is able to enjoy a few things himself, all great distractions from his medical issues.
