My GP take on PCa screening. He starts his patients in the mid 30's.

I was at my GP the other day for my annual physical.  BTW, I figured out how to avoid PSA test anxiety.  I wasn't due for a PSA until 10/15 but he requested on with all the other regular blood work without me knowing. I wasn't nervous at all.

Anyway, we were talking about PCa and he said his youngest guy diagnosed was 39 years old, via DRE initially.  He then said that after talking to the URO he had refered the guy to, the URO told my GP that he had a guy in the other week who was diagnosed at 26.

We talked a little bit about screening and he said his policy is to start men in their mid 30's.

Interesting......But man I feel really bad for the 26 year old.  Cut down at such a young age.  I know nothing about the particulars of his case, but if he had any kind of treatment he is going to have to deal with it for a long time if it was a low risk case.

When at AUA2010 I met Brent Sowers the VP of marketing for Bostwick Laboratories. In face we, (Prostate Cancer International), and David Bostwick shared a booth that weekend. Brent was diagnosed at 29 and had already had an RP.

He's still younger than I was in 2006 when I was Dxed.

So he's going to ignore the guidelines?

I imagine many of them will and that when the health insurance industry puts down their foot on covering testing, they'll have to get creative on the paperwork as they already do with so many other things health insurers are trying to avoid covering.

Wow, 26 & 29, makes our 40's guys look like they have an old man's disease, lol. Really terrible though to think about at that age.

I would assume,to come up with all these, medical restrictions on doctors and patients in treatment tests etc, it would take passing quite a few federal laws. Now I'm as paranoid as the next guy, probably more, I just don't see the day where thats going to happen in a democracy. Plz lets just assume we will stay a democracy, without going there, not the place. Even the mammogram and psa testing are only possible guide lines or established ones. Does anyone really see that happening even in this century. I got the whole slippery slope buzz word shtick. I just don't see this happening. If you do, just say so without why, cause I do not want this to turn into a political discussion. I won't tell you why I don't, think it will be cause it will go that way . Consider it a poll with out documentation, just yes I think it will or no I think it won't. In other words, and not to diminish or strangle the life of the thread. Is this all a tempest in a teapot? ps by this thread, Iam generally referring to all the threads on this subject.
