Greetings,

I know I'm not the only one out here who rides motorcycles.

I start back to work tomorrow and I'm feeling at about 90%.

My hobby is restoring old Triumph motorcycles so I pulled one out of the basement yesterday, got it running, and went for a few short rides, mostly around the neighborhood and to the gas station. Other than being slightly uncomfortable in the perineum, all went ok. I really thought kick starting the bike would cause leakage but it didn't, but the rides did. My pad was soaked. I know it's probably from the stiff seat (not like road bike cruisers) and the vibration which are common on old British bikes. I would think riding a bicycle would have the same effect. After the ride everything seemed to be back to what has become the new normal for me at 8 weeks out. I love to ride so I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar situations, will things improve with time, or should I postpone riding until until I'm dry(er)?

I read a lot of the post on this forum, my heart goes out to all who are struggling, and really hope this doesn't sound to petty. Everyone here has been really great and helped me a lot.

I found a nose less saddle for my bicycle and that really helped, not only with the discomfort, but also any leaking. I was lucky in that I regained control early, but I'm still using the nose less saddle 16 months post RP because it's so much more comfortable. My main reason for the purchase was my urologist/surgeon warning me of the possibility of damaging nerves and thus making permanent ED a bigger risk. That got my attention. He originally said no long distance or daily bicycle riding for 6 months post op. I showed him the seat at my 3 month PSA and he was so impressed he gave me permission to give it a try and I had no problems at all and have now achieved erections with no meds for the last two months. Needless to say, I feel very fortunate.

"Permanent ED" gets my attention. They sparred one side and they told me it'd be awhile before things came back. The wife and I aren't too concerned, we read on someone's post "Rather be a live steer than a dead bull". I'll contact my urologist tomorrow and ask if I can ride. I have found nothing about riding or not riding motorcycles. The information they sent home with said that most folks can resume normal activities 6 to 8 weeks post op. Riding motorcycles is normal activity for me and I don't think there are any noseless motorcycle seats. There is a Triumph seat I'm looking at that is more of a contoured seat which I think would be better. I can see how a springless bicycle seat could be an extreme because the tires are the only cushion between you and the road, motorcycles have springs and shocks. I'd think riding a horse could be a maybe, maybe not, also.

The punching up and down will do it. you gotta be patient man, your insides have just ben butchered. I know you want to be where you were, but you did not do any favor for yourself with that ride. Just go and lay of the bike till you are well healed. It never works out for you. Just Don't do it 10Drum, come on!!!! surgeons shake their heads at patients like that. Not to be bad but STOP.

I have been a avid rider since I was 18 year old, although I took cautious time off until my kids reached college. I waited at least two months after my surgery and took short easy rides as per my doctors instruction. His only thoughts were if it hurt, quit. I have been continent most of the time with exception to standing quickly, sitting and pulling wrenches or lifting heavy weights without first preparing my self, then I had some leakage. It gets better slowly, but it does get better. Since 2008 I have been active in the Patriot Guard, have ridden an extended trip of 2 thousand miles with friends, and given lots of people their first motorcycle ride. Personally I think you are rushing the healing a bit, but that's OK. So you get soaked riding, its all in the process of healing. Remember if it hurts quit. One thing most people who do not ride miss is the mental health one get with the wind at your back and the sun in your face. So enjoy what you have been blessed with, the body will follow.
And yes I didn't miss your love for the Triumph. I grew up on a Triumph, BSA and a Norton. All Though I do not ride a "Thumper" now, I have fond memories. Get healed, enjoy your life and live strong.

I have been riding motorcycles all my life, and had just gotten into LD (long distance) riding a few months before my dx in 2011. Sadly, I ended up selling my bike after my treatment with brachy. I found that the saddle just put too much pressure on the perineum area, and would cause horrible urinary retention problems, almost to the point of afraid of needing a catheter. I just couldn't bear it sitting around not getting any use out of it.

I can't say that it hurts, it was just uncomfortable at first, but that may be because of the pad. i find that if I sit on something like a flat hard surface, that's uncomfortable too. Glad to hear you are back riding. I never ride long distances, (I like cars for that), but you are right there's some therapy to riding, especially on something that you've spent many hours building. I put my old favorite back in the basement and pulled another one out because it needs some finishing touches. I don't think there will be any issue with working on it, all that's needed is cosmetic stuff. I hope I can answer a fellow biker's concerns on this forum in 60 months with a undetectable psa.

I ride motorcycles and look forward to getting back in the saddle. I'm only 2 weeks post surgery, so I still have at least 4 weeks before I attempt to jump back on my bike. I have been very fortunate so far as to not really experience any leakage post-op, although I continue to wear pads for insurance and perform kegels daily. It'll be interesting to see what happens when I get on a saddle, or get on/off the bike. My current bikes are a BMW R1200GS and Aprilia Mille RSVR. The saddle on the BMW is fairly wide and flat, so I'm hoping that riding it won't be a problem. Fingers crossed.

It's been two years since my surgery and ride a Harley TriGlide on a regular basis.  Talk about vibration!  There's nothing like 103 inches of American Iron trobbing between your legs!  (I'm talking about the Harley, you perverts!)

Based on when I had my surgery, and putting the bike away for the winter not long thereafter, it was probably about 8 or 9 months until after my surgery until I rode the hog again.  Fortunately for me, I had no issues with pain or leakage. 

I will add that it wasn't until about three months after my surgery that I was able to go pad-free.

Thanks for the replies. A man that works for one of our customers had a rrp last year and he's been back to riding without issue so for awhile now. He's sort of like me, he takes short rides but on a big V twin. I could see how many newer style bikes would be better (well different anyway) than my old Britt bikes. Thanks again for the replies.
