David -- I had a 60% chance that cancer had escaped the capsule so the doctor recommended BT + IGRT + HT. with that approach the cancer is stopped, almost twice as much radiation is delivered to the prostate over just straight BT and the prostate bed and nodes are zapped.
I was 12-12 cores positive and at least a G7.

That's what I mean and it makes perfect sense to me that one would not have surgery in such a case. This, of course, is just my personal bias.
Ont he other hand, in my case, I was told by everyone that I should feel confident that we caught it early (thanks to screening) and that it should be contained. In such a circumstance, surgery made perfect sense to me also because of my young age.
I think that one cannot say there is one best treatment. There are a lot of alternatives that are all effective given individual circumstances.
