Question

Hello,

Is it OK to have sex after a positive cancer biopsy result but before treatment?  I had my biospy 4 weeks ago and I did not know if it was dangerous to have sex before treatment.  Can it spread further if you do?

A lot of things run through your mind once diagnosed.

Judging from the way you worded your question I will assume that you haven't been been active at all since your biopsy. So, yes, you can have sex. It won't make the cancer spread. But there is one thing to mention...

Don't be surprised if your semen is more or less the color of chocolate syrup the first couple of times. At four weeks you will have missed the vampire-movie red color but there may still be some old, darkened blood to get rid of.

Unprotected sex can make a measurable difference in testosterone levels ... if you are female. Enough of the testosterone content in semen makes it into a woman's bloodstream to be measured. It's just a tiny amount, but blood tests can detect the difference. For the guy it doesn't make that big a difference. That is not something to worry about.

No problem, go for the sex. As others mentioned, you may have some unpleasant ejaculate to look at the next 2-3 times, but it will clear up.

Everything I've read on the topic of PCa and sex has said that sex is good in helping fight against prostate cancer. It probably helps physically, mentally, and emotionally. So many things that are fun aren't good for you, but this is a wonderful alignment of the stars and planets in your favor. Enjoy the experience often.

I've had 2 biopsies now with a little blood in the urine each time, but a lot in the semen. As others have said, it takes 3 or so times to clear the pipes. You may want to prepare your partner for this or help clean things out a little in advance.

The first time after the biopsy was one hell of a mess, no one told me that it would be that bad, from then on it was just engine oil for 3 weeks. Get at it....rabbits come to mind!
