Born in 1959

Had a physical every year. Never had any symptoms.
On 11/2012 PSA was .49
Biopsy performed in 12/2012 was Negative

Another PSA test on 5/2013 - PSA 5.9 (still no symptoms)

Biopsy 6/2013 3+4 (thank goodness for PSA tests)
1 core positive (upper left, I believe 5%), 1 suspicious (lower left), DRE shows a bump on the right side
Stage - T1c

One Dr suggested a PCA-III test, that score was 20 (normal)

After much research and stress (IMO deciding on treatment is just as stressful as the initial diagnosis), Da Vinci Robotic Surgery scheduled 7/18/2013

Do you mean 5.9 for the PSA??
We are the same age, I have no symptoms either, so a real shock to find that I had this bloody thing.

Yes, 5.9 not .59 ... Maybe wishful thinking on my part...

Since I had a rising PSA as well as a second biopsy, I was sort of prepared.
I think we are two reasons why PSA needs to be given regularly...

One of the biggest sources of stress (for me more than the actual diagnosis), was deciding on treatment. Anyway, I'm going to say goodbye to my sick friend on Thursday, and welcome (for a week anyway), a new roommate, Mr. Foley C. into my life...

Interestingly, I never had a bone scan or anything else taken. Is that something I should ask for? Thanks

Welcome to the club no one wants to join - you've come to the right place - lots of support and useful info to be found here.

Getting through the decision-making process is definitely one of the harder tasks facing those with a PCa diagnosis - each stage you pass through is a kind of a relief. I just had the DaVinci surgery 2 weeks ago - see my signature below for some of the details. There are some excellent resources on this site concerning things you might need in order to prepare for the surgery - check the "prostate cancer resources" thread at the top of the forum page for a shopping list prepared by some of the members of the forum - my wife and I found it very helpful.

Feel free to get in touch if you'd like any additional info about the surgery and recovery - or just post your questions here and you'll get plenty of answers!

Sorry you needed to find and join us, but glad you did.

Good luck in your upcoming surgery.

Hopefully your stay with the catheter will be of the shorter time frame.

Let us know how you are doing, and when you are safely "on the other side", the recovery side.

You've got past the hard part - the decision.

You'll do just fine. Keep us updated on your progress and ask any other questions you have.

At your PSA, a bone scan isn't likely to show anything useful. Which is likely why your doc hasn't mentioned. If you PSA was higher, it might be a good time. Still, if you're concerned at all, do ask for it.

At your age and with your PSA I would think that scans would be a waste of time and money (IMHO) -- but, of course, your time is yours to do with as you like and the money would be between you and your insurance carrier.

Have you consulted with a radiation oncologist as well as a surgeon?
