Another retrospective analysis
showed that testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in hypogonadal men (low testosterone) was not associated with recurrence after RP. In fact, only 4% of treated men had a biochemical recurrence, while 16% of untreated men had a biochemical recurrence within the median 27.5 month follow-up. Clinical recurrence was the same for both groups and only occurred in high risk men. On the other hand, PSA
did go up slightly for some men in the treatment group but not in the matched controls. All treated men had achieved nondetectable levels of PSA before TRT. Intriguing stuff! We await the results of the RCT that will prove/disprove a salubrious effect.
