The decision path is over. It will be HDR 2 treatments same day followed three weeks later by 25 treatments of IMRT. I’m done, I’m glad, it’s time to move on down the road from decision to treatment, I have put it off long enough, I’m done!.................Did I say I’m done?.............. Well, I am.
Will most likely start on 9/19 HDR to be done at MSKCC main campus in NYC and the IMRT will be done at their satellite campus in Sleepy hollow NY.

Edit for date change I put 8/19 and it should be 9/19.

Hey, Steven, congratulations on your decision. Now go for it and get clear of this stuff. Also, be sure to keep in touch and let us know how things are going as you proceed through your treatment.

Sounds like a good plan. You'll be in the middle of you IMRT during GFMPH NY but they give radiation guys the weekends off and Rochester is only five hours away. If you are like most guys on radiation you may get a bit fatigued about then but we'll be glad to find a comfy chair where you can sit and snooze if you wanted to come.

I am just finishing 40 RT but will continue on Lupron for the next year. Don't become too distressed if you experience some side effects - they are to be expected. Good luck!

Congratulations on making your decision Steven - one of the biggest points of time in our journey. I'm sure that you have felt a huge weight off of your shoulders.

Rest assured that the path you took to get to this decision was a complete and thorough one - one of the most detailed ones I've seen - so keep that in your pocket and feel confident.

You did good with the manner in which you researched this beast and the various treatment options, made a great, well-informed decision - and you'll do well with this treatment approach as well. No doubt.

Continued best to you - and I will encourage you to stick around and share what you have gone through and learned with the newbies that will be sure to follow. Your approach will be infinitely invaluable to them.

Good. And good for you. Half the battle is coming to terms with one's primary, and hopefully, only treatment plan. You have done your homework, thought it through much, and now made your decision. Don't ever look back, just keep moving forward.

I remember when I made my decision, what a lift off my shoulders. BTW, I'm also 52 and I also did HDR brachy and IMRT. I had two two-day HDR sessions a week apart (three fractions each time) followed by the same 25 sessions of IMRT. Brachy was in Jan and finished the IMRT in mid-March. No SEs at this time and I feel great, other than this ghastly HT that I'm still on.

I think you'll do GREAT.

Yooper I'm not going away anytime soon, I plan on "paying it forward" and try (operative word being "Try") to give what I received from all the great men and woman of HW.

Just for the record, I did have urinary urgency and some burning coming out of the brachy, but it resolved itself pretty quickly. I don't think the urgency was 100% better until after I finished IMRT. But for now I feel in tip-top shape.

I applaud both your decision and attitude. We will be following your progress and appreciate your desire to "pay it forward"--Yoop's expression. I don't foresee any pads or ED in your future from treatment. All the best to you.

Michael Doc said he would give me Flowmax for the urgency and the burning I guess I will have to deal with it.

Great decisionl. I had HDR and IMRT nearly three years ago and have done wonderfully. My docs put me on Jalyn before radiation started. It combines Avodart and Flomax. Ask your docs about it. Let me know how I can help as you go through the treatment.
