Don't know whether to be happy or discouraged.  Got my 6 month post op PSA result today.  It was 0.1 after being undetectable three months ago.  Uro was unconcerned saying it essentially means zero and it is nothing to worry about unless it goes to 0.2 or more.  Scheduled me for my next PSA in six months. But reading on this forum I get the impression that I should be concerned with any number above 0.01.  But my Uro was very dismissive of the ultra sensitive test believing anything that gives a reading beyond a tenth can cause too much unecessary anxiety.  Guess I should follow my Uro's advice and not worry....either that or get another Uro if his way of thinking is out of step. Any thoughts?

And on a side note, told a coworker I was getting my PSA results and he shocked me by saying he has never had a PSA test and he is 62 years old.  I told him I was a poster child for Prosate Cancer and the PSA test essentially saved my life, in my opinion.  Hope I convinced him to get the test done.  Just hard to believe there are guys my age bracket who haven't had at least one PSA test.  I know there is debate about PSA testing, but this is one person who will always be a proponent for it, until something better comes along.

The official guidelines tell you not to worry. If you choose to be part of the rebel alliance and worry anyway despite your doctor's orders, you can keep in the back of your mind that salvage RT isn't that bad.

Every day for six or seven weeks you go into a room, drop your trousers, climb up on a table covering yourself with a towel, and two pretty girls come in, fiddle around to get you ready, and then .... they leave the room, zap you with x-rays and bill your insurance company another thousand bucks.

Aside from that last part it isn't bad at all, and nothing to worry about.

Your uro is unconcerned, why should you be? He'd be looking for another PSA sooner if he thought anything was up. As for the much beaten-down discussion on testing, I'm afraid there are literally millions of men out there who got a message--or heard it that way--that PSA testing is unnecessary at best, and maybe even harmful. That's all any guy needs to hear, and only hear once. They will NEVER, EVER be getting a PSA test, for better or worse.

Thanks everyone. Sometimes it is hard to accept good news when you have been dealt with much bad news through life. My mind loves to play tricks with me such as.....yeah he gave me good news...but what is it that he is not telling me. Funny when he came in with the news he immediately starts talking about incontinence issues and restarting my sex life and then casually mentions "and your PSA is 0.1 have you given thought to using injections for sex...." I literally had to say "Whoa!!! What did you say about my PSA?" He did give me a few samples of 20 mg Cialis...so later today I will be seeing what kind of rise I get out of it. Maybe I will let all of you know if I get lucky!!! LOL

..Right on brother, it took me two and a half years to finally get my PSA tested cause I heard about over treatment and wanted no part of that hi jinx. My Father had PCa @ 58 y/o and when I hit 39 he started to tell me, "Son you need to check your PSA with a physical this PCa runs in our family." My reply was misinformed information and emotional..

Appleseed, sounds like my dad. I sure do miss his advice and guiding hand. Actually got my most recent PSA test on his b-day. Can't help but think he was helping good luck be on my side for a change.

..tdnjam, good for you with an undetectable score, many blessings to you. Me and my Dad are close for sure. Our relationship does have some flaws but there is a tremendous amount of loyalty to each other. I am glad I helped reminded you of your Father, good memories indeed. Stay Well..
