The grand kids leave for their home in the morning. Not going to be fun having to drive them to the airport. Got mixed feelings - going to miss the energy and joy but I am exhausted and don't think I can go on much longer. They never stop.
Sigh...
I'd write more but I promised to write a poem about
a turtle.
Got to go...

Hope you are enjoying the evening with them and that you will share your turtle poem with us. :)
I know it's hard not seeing my grandchildren everyday like I used to.

Well, we had our last board game and grandma is reading them their last story. The poem was to go along with a turtle shaped box I made for the kid's mother. She loves turtle things and last year the kids found a pattern for a turtle box in on of my woodworking magazines.
Here's the little poem that goes along with it:
This is Yertle.
A turtle
A little gift to thee
from Aidan and me.
He spied this turtle
in a magazine
and asked me
to bring her to life.
To my shop
She was brought
and with my saw
Her shape I wrought.
Dreams of perfection
Were in my mind
But alas
All that came was imperfect rhyme
On the sea she has swum
but by the boats she has been tossed
Till pirate shot and tide
Did make her swim.
Near the shores of Tortuga
did she spy a hand
of a special young man
to take her to a new land.
Now Yertle sits in your hands
asking for nothing more
than a home
and to hold your treasures in her heart.

A close relationship with grandchildren is such a blessing. Our seven have brought more joy to our lives than I could ever imagine, and you clearly are also reaping the rewards of the child-grandparent relationship.
I had that kind of relationship with my paternal grandfather, which I treasure to this day. Thanks for sharing all of this, Andrew.

Shop, I love your poem!! And I love your post about
your grandkids.
Relax, have a beer or three (or your drink of choice), and kiss your wife 'cause she's a good grandma.

I've had a nice restful afternoon.
But now the house is too quiet...
