Who sets the advertising for HW? I am getting ads for Adult Entertainment sites!

This morning while looking at HW I noticed that the advertising on the right hand side of the page was for some adult sex site. "Call of Roma, click here for a Roman Orgy"

This is just so cruel for a bunch of us with no prostates and 100% ED !! smhair devil devil

The ads are usually done by an agency. In this case its called AdChoices.

Which is one reason I use AdBlock for Chrome and Firefox. I never see the ads.

Also, these Ad scams, which what they really are, scan your "cookie folder" on your PC, and tailor the ads which aim to show you relevant ads based on your interests. This stuff is kept in your cookie files. That's why cookies are bad. ;-)

I use ad blockers for Safari.

I just alerted Peter. He has to call them and get it fixed.

James, then that explains why ads for things that do interest me keep on popping up. Couldn't figure that one out. Like they use to say, how do-od it know? lol. Least I don't have nasty things popping up.

I also run Ghostery, which blocks tracking by web marketing and analytic companies. For example I just checked and see that Ghostery is blocking five tracking companies on this page: AddThis, Google Analytics, Google Custom Search Engine, Quantcast, and ScoreCard Research Beacon.

As a further example of the kind of marketing analytics and tracking that is everywhere on the web I just checked and see that Ghostery is blocking 10 tracking companies today at CNN.com and 14 at nytimes.com. This is pretty typical of nearly any site you go to.

I do not surf the web for Adult sites (at least not since my RALP) and I think these ads were put in by the agency that posts them to HW.

Don't even get me started on Google's Gmail, it's the worst!
I did a test, and sent my son a email using gmail. This was the content of that email. "Pick me up a case of 10w30.". He already knew what brand oil I wanted.
Gmail does indeed scan your emails for keywords, to use in ads. I then started getting ads for car parts and many many oil ads!
The ad spammers and Google search for keywords, and then use those to target the ads.

You don't have to search **** sites in particular. They pick up on keywords that you use. Like erectile dysfunction, ed, doctor, prostate, etc;...

I use AdBlock Plus 2.2.4 for Firefox and AdBlock 2.6.4 in Chrome
They work like a charm.

Will this Adblock work with IE? If so where do I find it?

I used those as examples. But yes, they target certain keywords. As far as the amount of and when, I don't know much on that algorithm. lol

Not sure if AdBlock exists for IE. What's IE? lol

After purchasing an item on a website, each web session i opened, showed their products on the righ. It was an apparel store, g rated. When I cleared cookies, I no longer see their ads. Ad blocker's a better idea, though, then no clearing's required.

Wow am I glad I started this thread, didn't know there was a program like ADblocker. It works great and on IE (Internet Explorer) now no more ads. Thanks Sparki for the help. smilewinkgrin

Adblocker screwed up my IE8 and it would not work.  Took a while to find the problem.  It had changed my default site to an unworking address.  Reset the default.  Works fine now.  Thanks for the info.

Not to be negative, but I checked with Cnet re reviews for adblocker. The Cnet review was highly positive but dated. The current reviews by readers were not good...citing numerous problems caused by the program download. Just sayin'...be cautious.
