I have an appointment Thursday at the Comprehensive Care Center at Umich. I used to see Dr. Hussein there. She is still my doctor, but Urology Today mentioned this new initiative at Umich. I think it might be some sort of multi-disciplinary thing where you have a group of doctors as a team. I'm actually not sure other than this is brand new and I will be one of the first patients. I think they do stuff life specialized blood tests (circulating tumor cells, bio markers, etc). Basically, they use tests and the latest research.
Anyway, I have an appointment with the head of this initiative and also with radiation. It might be that they are now doing the latest new type of scans.
I will be one of the very first patients.
Sorry to be so vague. I'll know a lot more after Thursday and I will certainly post about this.
While I am at it, I am amused that Dr. Hussein's office called last week to inform me of the high liver enzyme results of my last round of blood tests. I had the tests on Friday, 7/26. On Monday the 29th, Dr. Lam's office called me and told me to stop the Casodex immediately. Those tests also went to my local urologist, oncologist, and family physician. Not ONE of them called me. This really underscores the importance of having good quality doctors AND their office staffs. Who knows how high those enzyme levels would be if I just found out about those results now. Perhaps permanent liver damage? I know the Casodex information makes it very clear that this potential is there and one should stop immediately when enzymes are up.
