At least I think so. :-)

Myself and Nick Vogelzang teamed up on this video and article. I managed to get our event plugged, our support group plugged, some awareness tidbits, a great interview with Nick, and I even managed to get a view of HealingWell in the spot.

Good article on you, Tony. Glad you had the chance to get your word out your way.

For curiosity, do you consider yourself cured, as the article said? Are those your words, or the writer of the article. I know we have discussed that "C" word here a time or two.

When she asked me if I was cured I told her "I like the sound of it". She was free to make of it what she did. And what she said was I was cancer free. Either way, I like the sound of it...:-)

Speaking from an advocates point of view, I know that saying I am "cured" is subjective. I know too many men that had great outcomes for many more years than I but still suffer relapses far down the road.

But why live like it isn't true? Doing well, and I think thats part of the message I was trying to convey.

I've always had a different response to 'cancer free' - "It wasn't free, I paid a lot for that." ;)

Terrific piece! I'll bet lots of guys show up at your next support group meeting.

I consider myself cured, having received curative treatment. It's an attitude and Mindfulness thing with me -- about living with what is in the present moment and not wasting any mental energy on eventualities that may or may not happen and over which I have no control.

One question. The reporter said: "Vogelzang says the majority of prostate cancers can be treated with a pill." What pill is that? Is he holding out on us? LOL

I wondered about the magic pill reference as well. What is it, and where can you buy it?

I have heard him use that reference a couple times but it was quite a bit more clear than she made it. In summary he suggested:

Prostate Cancer and Oral Medications today.
> We now know we can prevent 30% of prostate cancer cases with finasteride and dutasteride.
> Low risk men, and some intermediate men, the majority of men diagnosed, can also take those drugs while monitoring their disease as opposed to immediate radical therapy.
> Men diagnosed with stage 3 and above or advancing disease will by overwhelming majority be treated today with oral medications. (AR drugs, Hormonal drugs, targeted therapies, etc.)

Today, we can treat the majority of prostate cancer patients with a pill!!!

I liked his slide on it because it is true. He does not suggest that other conventional treatments are not effective but rather they can be both front line and supplementary therapies. At another discussion he mentioned to the effect that this was a big deal today that we are where we are with good data on oral treatment options for prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. The challenge now is to get compliance in the medical community to slow down and better evaluate the cases they are dealing with before diagnosis and before commencing with aggressive treatment.

she ends the news clip (video) by stating that in 2012 the USPSTF issued recommendations against screening. That's unfortunate.

I agree with you. Cassandra and I talked about the USPSTF recommendation and I reminded her that they did the same thing with an unpopular breast cancer recommendation and the protesting feedback has been enormous. The anchor here, Paula Francis, has experience in reporting prostate cancer in September, I just wished she mentioned that the USPSTF recommendation was very unpopular.

All in all, I was pleased with Cassandra's effort. She talked to the folks I recommended and she reported well.
