After two miscues between the catheter clotting up we have a go. When I went to have my veins checked they said I would need a catheter on my upper chest to my Vena Cava so my cancer center placed one properly and flushed it within a week of the leukophoresis procedure. When I went for the procedure, spending $170 on gas and hotel, my catheters had clogged up with my over active platelets. Unfortunately, the United Blood Services I went to does not sock the necessary IV med, "Clot Blocker", to remedy the problem.
This time I had my Cancer Service unclog me two days before leukophoresis and though it was a nail biter of a sluggish start, the clot broke loose and we were able to proceed. I would have had it unclogged the day before but the leuko. procedure was scheduled for Monday at 7 AM.
this is mainly an FYI for any of you future Provenge plus catheter patients, I hope there aren't any. . . . Q
