I'm a 50 yro male, have elevated blood pressure, family history of cancer, and was told my pass levels on sept. 9, 2012 we're 2.8. On sept. 20, 2024 I was tested again and was just informed my level was 5.7, wat should I be concerned about. I have no issues with urinating or groin pain or swelling. scool

Jerry, not speaking for Oz, but would think it simply meant his PSA test results. Having gone from 2.8 to 5.7

Oz, it might mean you need to have a prostate biopsy to look for cancer, unless your urologist hasn't ruled out an infection. I had full blown prostate cancer with no visible symptons, just a fast rising PSA number. Welcome to HW PC.

BTW, you might want to check your date on your last PSA test, it won't be the year 2024 for another 11 years, lol.

Welcome Ozz, but sorry you need to be here.

It is important that we understand the facts and not make too many assumptions. You may have been told some results over the phone, and it wasn't clear what they told you. Based upon the numbers it is reasonable to assume they said PSA. You also mention a family history of cancer, it is important to know if that was specifically “prostate” cancer, (and not us assume it is).

It appears your PSA has broken a standard threshold (>4.0), and that deserves some more attention.

You could have a prostate infection, and your doc may want to put you on an antibiotic, and then retest your PSA. The doc may also want you to have a biopsy of your prostate to look for cancer cells.

We're not medical professional here, so you really need to talk to your doc concerning your the next step. Your PSA is not a terrible number, you have some time to educate yourself, and you'll get a lot of great advice here, probably enough to make your head spin...glad you found us, hang in there, much more to come.

Hey Ozz. You should make an appointment to see a urologist. He will probably want to do some tests to see if there's a problem with your prostate. Elevated PSA is a sign tht someting might be going on; get it checked out.

hi Ozz,

High PSA is due to some activities going on the prostate...could be also due to an infection...prostatitis. You still need a urologist to diagnose your suitation.

Like everybody else has said, you need to get that checked out. Make an appointment with a urologist. He may put you on an antibiotic for a couple of weeks and then test your PSA again. If the antibiotic makes the PSA number go down it means you probably have a slight infection that is causing the reading. If it doesn't go down he may want to do a biopsy.

One thing your doctor will probably mention before your next PSA test is that you should avoid sexual activities, bike riding, and other activities that put lots of pressure on you groin area for 48 hours before you have your blood drawn for your next PSA. Sex right before the test can raise your PSA reading by several points.

Yes. Be proactive and get an appointment with a UROLOGISt. Something is going on and it may be as simple as an infection. But just because you can urinate, have no pain or swelling; that does not dismiss the chance of prostate cancer. Good luck.

Ozz, the previous posters have given very good advice. It is true that that you may or may not have cancer but now is the best time to find out for sure. Hopefully you don't have cancer but if it is, that 5.7 indicates that you have a very good chance to completely stop it with proper treatment.

Thanks for all the information guys . My doctor is settings up my appointment and I will be keeping this one. I usually slip appointments. I'll keep y'all informed of my progress.
