Really excellent comments and I thank you for "sticking around". Your assistance to vets has been invaluable and your upbeat attitude is always welcomed. Yesterday, I discussed the VHA's "Clinical Preventive Service Guidance Statement: Prostate Cancer Screening" with our new VSO. Basically, the VHA does not recommend prostate cancer screening with PSA unless it is "specifically requested by the patient" and then screening may be done. Hopefully, the VSO will inform all vets that seek his services.
Yes, my VA medical facility confirmed the above last week when I visited and said "we don't do that".
Sure, some VA "silos" and pcp's will continue to offer the test but mine will not; I guess it's guidance and not viewed as a "law". All vets and their loved ones need to know that the PSA test may have to be "specifically requested"..I apologize for hijacking your thread Lieutenant but we all need to know this!!
Thanks for your forbearance.
