Thank You for the information. Because my wife and grandkids are in our annual church Christmas play (playing grandma and granddaughter has leading roll), we're not able to attend this one. However, please keep us posted on future trips. Since we're in the Memphis area, this would be a great opportunity to attend, oh well, hopefully next trip. We've NEVER been on a cruise at all!!

Would we have needed a passport? See, I told you we've never been on a cruise. Guess we need to obtain ours...soon!!

Slight correction: Next June's GFMPH Alaska cruise departs from Whittier Alaska (there is a shuttle bus from Anchorage where the airport is) and ends up in Vancouver Canada. Being a one-way cruise give you an extra day because you lose the day that other cruises spend at sea going the opposite direction (with many of the passengers sea sick) to close the loop. It makes the air reservations a bit trickier but the one-way cruises are slightly cheaper (they burn half the fuel of a round-trip cruise.)

For those who really want to see Alaska there is a five-day pre-cruise land tour that some of us are doing. It adds quite a bit to the price but I am told that Denali Park is a must-see destination.

If you are only going to do one cruise, Alaska would be a good choice. There is soooo much to see from the deck of the boat on an Alaska cruise. The Caribbean is nice but from the deck you see a lot of blue water and tender boats. On an Alaska cruise you will see tidewater glaciers calving into the sea (sometimes you hear the splash) and often you will see whales (esp killer whales) from the boat. On one of our Alaska cruises (this will be our third) we saw a bear on the beach -- from the deck of the boat.

I've read NCL's guidelines (here: www.ncl.com/about/required-travel-documentation) and it doesn't seem to say for certain but it does imply that you need a passport.

It also says: Note: If you miss your ship at its scheduled U.S. departure port and need to travel outside the U.S. to meet your ship, or should you unexpectedly need to depart the ship from a foreign port prior to the end of sailing, a passport would be required to leave or re-enter the U.S. by air. To that end, Norwegian Cruise Line strongly recommends all guests to obtain a passport for their voyage on any Norwegian Cruise Line vessel.

So people on your cruise who have a passport might want to bring them along.

Drop me an email and my wife will share her info about Europe cruises. Originally we were doing Europe next summer but we decided to do Alaska again when some family members and some forum members expressed an interest. I think she is looking at Europe in 2015.

Thanks so much for the information. We'll consider the Alaska cruise. We're in the process of finishing our home (built in 1972 and remodeling). Our goal is to sell our home and move 30 minutes south of our home in Bartlett, TN to Olive Branch, MS, and share a home with our daughter, son in law and four grandkids (want a in laws place).

GFMPH Initiation is a b.tch. They first con you into becoming a cursed MODERATOR. Then you get sucked into fronting for scotch whisky and cigar tastings.

THEN, you have to read lots of posts from people poking at each other with sharp sticks about things they can't change (shudder, horrors, blood dripping from dark tree branches, cries of the dead in the night, stuff for the R rated channels).

I think the hazing for you has already begun as someone gave you the wrong location of the gathering. If you go to Sarasota you will be about 150 miles away from the actual location at Sonny and Sherry's Resort and Spa in TITUSVILLE

I look forward to meeting you in Florida. I am renting an RV to take to the gathering so we do not miss one minute of the fun, games, camaraderie and yes hazing.

Talk to the cruise agent and see what he/she can do for you. They do try to keep people who sign on early happy. Often they will try to compensate you with on-board credit. That'll buy you booze and tee shirts on the boat but the upgrade is probably a better deal.

Terry can hook you up with the cruise agent if you don't have the contact info.

Peter, almost ruined my surprise for Todd and Mandy, but all is good they will be on their balcony just 5 cabins down from us. Breakfast in the mornings and GFMPH Adult beverages in the evenings on a balcony can be so GFMPH.

Seeing as how I turn 50 the second night of the cruise I will have 2 nights to party. after that I probably need to take my geritol and turn in early the rest of the cruise

I am bringing trimix so it may only sound like stomping lol
