Bad bruising post robotic surgery

I was just wondering if anybody else experience really bad bruising on the right side from the belt line going upwards?

yeah, wouldn't call it bad but there was some bruising where they stuck the robot arms in.

I also had some abdominal bruising, but what was more disconcerting was the fact that Lil Wally was so black, blue and purple, he looked like he was wearing a navy blue turtle neck sweater.

That was not a sight I was not prepared for.

All of this will pass and you will find that most of us had bruising in one way or another.

I had that bruises too...around the waist line...blue..black, purple..Took around 3 weeks to heal.

I was told in advance to expect bruising and I got some. Total area of bruises were about the size of a dollar bill or so. The tenderness blended in with the overall feeling in my abdomen that I had set the world sit-up record. Got better every day. BMs and gas passing were more important to me than the abdominal soreness.

Common, but unpleasant, with robotic surgery.

I had open surgery, and there really wasn't any bruising to speak about, or the classical swelling of
the family jewels that many report post robotic surgery. Just a nice giant incision, and later scar.

My husband's bruising was nothing less than spectacular!  I think the shots of heparin while hospitalized had a big part to play.  Even the nurse practitioner was impressed.  In fact, the bruising was how I found Healing Well when I googled info on swelling and bruising after the procedure.  So, something good came out of it.  Feel better soon.

It looked like somebody took a baseball bat to my right side. Probably 10 inches horizontal and 6 inch vertical from right below belt line upward. I noticed the bruising was adjacent to one of the robotic surgical ports. At least it isn't sore!

I don't see any other bruising around the five other surgical ports, and Junior isn't black or blue, maybe just a swollen and shorter!

I think this is post-op day 5 for you. It was the day(Oct 7) I knew, after the long period of unknowns, that my life would get back to normal. I hope you feeling similarly optimistic today!

Yes, each day is an improvement. Mornings are good but towards the evenings it feels like my belly is sore and filled with fluid (acities), problem from all of my fluid intake during the day. Had my first BM on the 4th post op day. Still feel a little faintesh at times.

I had one large bruise, black and purple about six inches across, I showed my 14 yo grandson and told him that the robot threw a few gut punches at me right before surgery. It was totally gone in app 10 days. I had some unusual swelling about 5 days after surgery also that also lasted about a week.

had my op 29th october. i must be the exception here as had no bruising at all.Yes it was sore getting out of bed for the first week but everything else fine.

I could guess that the incision where there was more bruising was the one for the drain. That area took more abuse for me, worse bruises than the others.

I guess just because this is minimally invasive robotic surgery, I guess that isn't the same a delicate on the patient surgery!

I had a huge bruise, but mine was on the hip downward along the outside of the leg. I showed it to my surgeon and she was upfront enough to admit that it looked like something was leaned on my unconscious body for a good while during the surgery. I guess that still qualifies as "minimally invasive", though.

I had open RP with long eight inch incision and some black and blue due to internal bleeding which disappeared in a couple weeks. The scar competes nicely with my wife's c section( s) scar. Lol

I had no bruising or swelling of certain parts, and no pain afterwards either.
I did however, have extreme pain on the right side for three weeks because of a 25 year old appendectomy that he had to spend an extra hour to get through. He almost scrubbed the operation because of that.

Holy Moly Crap, I would not have had this surgery if I had known that a 25 year old appendectomy was going to cause that much pain. I still swear to this day, that the surgery team left something inside me.

No bruising in my case and no pain, but the far right-hand incision did produce abundant drainage, clear not bloody, and it took a couple of days to get it under control.  Before that I was soaking through the bandages quite quickly, as well as a washcloth on top.  The surgeon indicated that this was normal.  Dan P

Glad you are up and around. I did not have any bruising but did have greater pain on the right. That must be the big portal or something. I am 5 weeks post and still a little sore on that side. Lots of walking. I think that helps with healing and with continence.
